Tiki's daydream...
Jan. 4th, 2006 10:33 amSo, y'all remember we bought this in Japan....

But we were sitting around thinking today (as is our wont), "Too bad we didn't pick up two of these items, as then we could unhook the little reindeer for nefarious purposes."
Well, guess what?
( Voila! )

Tiki tantrum
Jan. 4th, 2006 12:50 pmAnd so, we are reading this...

...by Christopher Frayling, and we are annoyed!!!!
Not because of the book, which Mr. Tikistitch (**hearts**) bought for us for Xmas and which combines two of our favoritest topics, SCIENCE! and bad movies.
No, we are peeved over p.14, which in the midst of discussing the origins of mass media stereotypes regarding scientists (frizzy-haired Einsteinian, crippled Dr. Strangelove) concludes that images of scientists in popular culture are inevitably and irrevocably MALE.
Huh?
Has Tiki taught you nothing????
Why cannot there be girlie mad scientists too, hmmmm? Girls can be eeeeeevil, look at the Wicked Witch of the West, Maleficent, or Ann Coulter! And girls definitely do science: Madame Curie, Rosalynd Franklin, Margaret Mead, or that chick Laura Dern played in Jurassic Park.
We must shatter this terrible glass ceiling that has been erected over girlie mad scientists. We will be writing Mattel forthwith to insist that they immediately issue a Barbie's [tm] Pink 'n Pretty Dungeon Laboratory playset (including Ken [tm] as Igor!). We must begin to warp young minds....
