And so, we are reading this...

...by Christopher Frayling, and we are annoyed!!!!

Not because of the book, which Mr. Tikistitch (**hearts**) bought for us for Xmas and which combines two of our favoritest topics, SCIENCE! and bad movies.

No, we are peeved over p.14, which in the midst of discussing the origins of mass media stereotypes regarding scientists (frizzy-haired Einsteinian, crippled Dr. Strangelove) concludes that images of scientists in popular culture are inevitably and irrevocably MALE.

Huh?

Has Tiki taught you nothing????

Why cannot there be girlie mad scientists too, hmmmm? Girls can be eeeeeevil, look at the Wicked Witch of the West, Maleficent, or Ann Coulter! And girls definitely do science: Madame Curie, Rosalynd Franklin, Margaret Mead, or that chick Laura Dern played in Jurassic Park.

We must shatter this terrible glass ceiling that has been erected over girlie mad scientists. We will be writing Mattel forthwith to insist that they immediately issue a Barbie's [tm] Pink 'n Pretty Dungeon Laboratory playset (including Ken [tm] as Igor!). We must begin to warp young minds....

Oooooo! I always wanted to be an Evil Genius. Complete with my own minions. Everyone I know says I'm evil

Girls can be eeeeeevil, look at the Wicked Witch of the West, Maleficent, or Ann Coulter! Hey! Don't put me in the same catagory as Ann Coulter! I may be evil but I have some scruples.

Barbie's [tm] Pink 'n Pretty Dungeon Laboratory playset Ooooo! What a wonderful idea. I wish I had one as a kid. Instead, I just played Madame DeFarge and the Guillotine with my Barbies. (And no, I'm really not kidding.)

Me three!! Minions, I must have minions!! Bwa-ha-ha!

I could totally do the job--sitting in my groovy 60s chair, cooly stroking my pet ocelot. "Greetings, Mr. Bond."

Yeah, and I've learned my lessons from all those Bond movies on what not to do. Like telling the hero all my plans and explaining the the elaborate method of his death. No, just shoot him and move on. Not as satisfying, but less likely to get foiled.

Seeeee? This is why we need mad scientist girls! We'd totally shoot that dimwit 007 and go take over the world! AND we'd look totally cute whilst doing it!

They had a Barbie Paleontologist a few years ago (ok, maybe 10) that I nearly picked up for that very reason!
