Strong quake shakes Southern California

LOS ANGELES - A strong earthquake shook Southern California on Tuesday, causing buildings to sway and triggering some precautionary evacuations. No immediate damage was reported.

The jolt was felt from Los Angeles to San Diego, and slightly in Las Vegas.

Preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County.

Keep forgetting to mention this: there were not one but TWO earthquakes whilst we were in Tokyo. We completely missed the first one 'cause of talking with fellow geeks about geekdom (that's what growing up in Cali will do to you). The second we noticed, when we were all at the BBQ place waiting for our plates o' meat. (Yeah, we went to one of those places like in Lost in Translation. It was OK.) Anyway, regarding the quake and or aftershock, we asked if it meant Gojira was coming. (Hey, we were at the seaside!!!) Speaking of which, we were kinda disappointed that our hotel didn't have any evacuation instructions in case of attack by giant robots.

I felt a quake when I was in Tokyo, and pretty much most of the ones here in LA over the last oh fourty year, and this one today here in LA was pretty darn strong. I had stuff fall and sounds like stuff is a mess near the epicenter. So far nothing about anyone being hurt thank goodness.

There was one in Japan the month before we went that actually killed a few people. Not as bad as Kobe, but pretty bad.

Yeah, I know it was in the northern part and they had some bad landslides. So far no reports of anyone being killed here thank goodness.

I keep dreaming I'm in an earthquake. Which is odd, because there hasn't been one here in quite a while to my knowledge.
