Ride 'em, cowboy!

So, Mr. Tiki and ourselves have been spending a bit of time riding around in bullet trains these past few days. Shinkansen are a lot like airplanes with all the hassles surgically removed - they get you from point to point super fast, and you don't have to take off your shoes unless you really want to.

They also have a "in flight" magazine in the seat backs, and a Sky Mall type of magazine, with a lot of crazy Japanese goods. We found this item in the "exercise" equipment:



So, your guess, what "muscles" is this particular piece of machinery supposed to exercise?

There used to be the same thing at... I think it was the Sharper Image. I walked by there and there was a girl who couldn't have been older the 9 on one. My jaw just dropped and I walked away "That is so wrong...".

Maybe it's to practice bull-riding? Or the female art of toilet-squatting (you know, in icky bathrooms where there's stuff all over the seat? Yeeeuch.)

Yeah. I'm sure it's something innocent like that! I mean, it's not like Japan is secretly full of perverts or anything... XD

I think they call that a "mechanical camel." I've had the pleasure (?) of seeing one demonstrated on a Japanese infomercial. Yes, it does look vaguely pornographic, but the idea is quite old--I think they were all the rage at the turn of the last century.
