When I was in 2nd grade, my class went on a field trip to the Blue Lake Cannery. They were working on beets that week. The floor was stained with beet juice throughout the whole factory; the cafeteria had a blackboard on the wall where someone had written stuff like "We can't be beet!" and "The beet goes on!"; and the scariest thing was the 45-foot-high, acre-square pile of beets in the open yard out back.

Plus, my grandma made me eat this really horrible Lithuanian beet soup once that was 1) bright pink in color and 2) served cold.

Oh, isn't that borscht? Mr. Tiki actually quite likes that stuff. I think it has too many consonants. And too many beets.

I don't remember being told it was borscht, but it may well have been. And yes, far too many beets.

As far as I'm concerned, part of the appeal of being an "adult" is that you shouldn't have to eat stuff you don't like.
