So, we were wandering around the Intarnets, trying to find a video of Conchord Bret making like Kevin Bacon, and what did we find?

Zac Efron Brings Home the Bacon in Footloose Redo

Let's hear it for the boy! Paramount is developing a full-blown musical remake of 1984's Footloose, with High School Musical cutie Zac Efron picking up where Kevin Bacon's be-bopping, Walkman-toting Ren left off. HSM helmer Kenny Ortega is in talks to both choreograph and direct the redo.

The original Footloose, for those so young you sicken me, concerned a rebellious newcomer's arrival in a small town that has banned dancing. (And no, it's not where Ashlee Simpson lives.)

Got that? High School Musical 2 guy (because just one high school musical was apparently just not enough) is gonna be in another version of Footloose (because, ditto).

Ooooo, he actually got the role? That's nice for him :D I keep getting text messages from some mysterious company that wants to charge me for Lindsay/Paris/Britney news and one was about him wanting to be in that movie.

Hm, my friend & I made some parody lyrics to the title song, as like Al Yankovik...I remember it was titled FOOTLESS but I'll have to dig around in boxes and see if I have the original lyrics. Maybe I could sell them to weird al if the stupid movie becomes popular...

I usually don't have a problem with teh gay preventing me from appreciating teh hawt (ie, Gale Harold, or lovely dumb Keanu). I mostly have a problem with teh stupid--I just wonder if kids are gonna look back on HS Musical, or an Efron-ified Footloose, and be slightly mortified, the way we who viewed the *old* Footloose are.

There's some teenie bopper stuff--like the Alice books, or old Beatles records, or Harry Potter--that's just plain awesome. And some that's just, not.

I've seen the Footloose musical in London and, apart from a few cheesy moments, it ROCKED! They have put a lot of thought into why the characters would sing the songs that were originally on the movie sountrack :)

Hmmm, I didn't know they'd made it into a play. I think, for me, it would potentially actually work as a musical. I don't mind "musical logic," where people suddenly burst into song. I have a trouble with weird things like Flashdance or Footloose where they try to contive a "logical" reason to have people dancing.

And they're doing a remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reeves. I can just hear Klaatu saying, "be excellent to each other". Come to think of it, isn't that really the essence of Klaatu's mission - just a little more pot-induced wording?
