I think it's used to air futons - you know good housewives air futons every day and they need clips to secure them to the balcony rails.

Oh, that would make sense!

I've been told that folks also take out comforters to beat them and keep them foofy, and I actually have a Stitch that's supposed to be a comforter beater, which is why I was speculating that you'd need pins.
