Okely-dokely. 'Cause tiki is all about the random!!! Also, we're still waiting for those $#%$#$ regressions to run.
1. Unlike many so-called "fanatical" Star Wars fans, I've actually been to Tatooine.
2. Despite doing Science! for a living, I haven't been near a lab (the kind with test tubes 'n stuff) nor donned a lab coat for over a decade. Though at one point, when I was interviewing participants, my boss at the time ordered me to wear a lab coat, as she thought it would make me look more "scientific."
2b. By the way, the word "data" is plural. Always say these data, and never "this data." This doesn't count as a weird octo-fact, it's just a pet peeve.
3. Tikistitch, late bloomer: nobody seems to believe this, but despite being born in California, growing up in California, and attending college in California, I didn't have a driver license 'til my mid-20s, and didn't own a car 'til I was 30. I still own that car by the way, a Honda Civic, though the poor little thing has gotten a bit moldy sitting out under the trees. It's probably time to send it off to "live on a farm."
4. Another one nobody's gonna believe: Mr. Tiki and I started collecting toys--I mean, really started collecting--when we were in grad school, and barely had two pennies to rub together. We lived on Costco ramen, all the while travelling to Tunisia, and buying prototypes.
5. When I was a baby tiki, I had my first brush with multi-media stardom: at the advanced age of 5, I was a guest on an episode of Art Linkletter's House Party. Before he became an anti-drug fanatic, Linkletter's claim to fame was "kids say the darndest things," coaxing cute, and seemingly spontaneous phrases out of the mouths of tots. This was also baby tiki's first brush with the media are a bunch of #%$@# wankers. The little quips? Scripted. In fact, the producer who worked with us actually threatened us with our parting gifts if we failed to accurately repeat the lines we'd rehearsed during the actual taping of the show with Linkletter.
6. Between Mr. Tiki and myself, we have two Bachelor of Science degrees, three Master's, and two PhDs. And we still have a very difficult time putting together the Star Wars Lego sets.
7. Tiki's Encounter with Greatness: Robert Altman once yelled at me to get off the lawn.
8. I named my first cat Harvey. And, no, I hadn't seen the James Stewart movie, so I've no clue how my baby self conjured up that name. Though we lived in West LA at the time, Harvey came from a litter sired in the deserts of Arizona. His favorite occupation? Jumping through the lawn sprinkler.
