Paris Hilton: prisoner of conscience!
Jun. 8th, 2007 04:43 pmParis Hilton sent back to jail in hysterics
LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was sent screaming and crying back to jail Friday after a judge ruled that she must serve out her sentence behind bars rather than in the comfort of her Hollywood Hills home.
"It's not right!" shouted Hilton, who violated her probation in a reckless driving case. "Mom!" she cried out to her mother.
Usually, probably like just about everyone else who's reading this, we try to avoid news about Paris Hilton. But, this is just kind of awesome.
UPDATE: Olbermann is gonna do Paris Hilton Puppet Theater! *glees*

Date: 2007-06-09 06:17 am (UTC)"The New York Daily News reported earlier this week that Hilton was visited in jail on Tuesday by her lawyer and her psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Sophy. The Beverly Hills doctor wrote in court filings related to a $10 million defamation suit against Hilton brought by actress Zeta Graff that his patient was distraught and traumatized by her fear of incarceration."
So he is saying she can't go to jail because she's scared! Ah...um, I think that is the point of sending people to jail? Because they will be too scared to break laws? Or am I missing something here?

Date: 2007-06-09 06:41 am (UTC)I've tried to avoid following this whole mess, but on Olbermann today, they had one of the creepy OJ attorneys, and he made a credible case that due to prison overcrowding, if she weren't a celebrity, Paris might not have been sent to jail at all.
But, you gotta wonder, all this emo over a couple days in jail? Does Paris literally not know that, ya know, the rest of us don't get to just swan around posing for photographers every day, we have jobs and etc.? Gah.

Date: 2007-06-09 07:13 am (UTC)But she got caught twice after that driving and the second time is when she ended up in court. She violated her probation. Usually when that happens, a person does go to jail.
What's insane is even after the judge handing down her sentence of jail time, she still kept driving (and smoking pot and whatever else). So, I say better she does her time instead of running over someone ala Brandy or Lohan. We have enough crazy drivers in LA, one less can't hurt.
Yeah, Paris is upset because she can't go shopping on Rodeo Drive every day now. And that this might ruin her reputation (uh yeah right)

Date: 2007-06-09 03:36 pm (UTC)As i said, I've been *trying* not to follow this case, but I did grasp that it's a probation violation of some kind. Though, this being LA, I can't think of *anyone* who'd stop driving just because of a little thing like their license being suspended.
It's the sense of entitlement that really boggles. Other countries have wealthy powerful families, but they seem to get some kind of message about responsibility as well--for example, Prince Harry seemed quite honestly set to serve in Iraq. And it seems like, in this country, in the past, there was that kind of sense of obligation among rich people--like the Roosevelts or the Rockefellers going into politics. With the Hiltons, there's a complete absense of any sense of responsibility. It's so divorced from reality, it's like a mental illness.

Randy makes me smile!
Ya know, the odd thing about Gitmo, Robert Shapiro actually connected her bouncing back and forth between jail and home to the suspension of habeus corpus. I'm never gonna like Robert Shapiro, but I'm glad fancy pants lawyers like that are around, even if they only ever help worthless rich people like Paris.
