Disney stores to be restructured

Oriental Land Co., the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, will close some of its stores that sell Disney merchandise and revamp operations at its other outlets to move into the black.

The Disney stores are expected to see a net loss of about 1.8 billion yen in the business year through March 31 on sales of some 17.6 billion yen, which excludes sales of admission tickets to the theme parks....

The company, which has 54 Disney stores nationwide, plans to close one outlet in Sapporo and another in Kumamoto Prefecture by the end of the month and will shut several others by next March.

The company will try to boost store sales by increasing the synergy with new Disney film releases and new shows from its two theme parks -- Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea. Stores will also begin selling products for adults, Oriental Land officials said.

Sounds kinda like what Children's Place did here (we lost a couple of local Dizzney stores). We like the bitlet about selling more products for adults, though, our bank account probably will NOT be happy.

I tried so hard to help them get out of the red by shopping as much as I could earlier this year, but alas, I was limited to how much I could carry back on the plane.

As long as they keep making lots of Stitch stuff I will continue to shop there!!!!

Hah yeah, same here about the adult stuff. Although what's creepy is that at ours they've started selling "sexy" lingerie with Minnie Mouse, Tigger etc. on it and it just seems wrong on so many levels. But the Piglet one is the worst.

Instead of stuff exclusively for adults, I hope they also make some kids' stuff bigger. I'd love a pair of character flip flops or some of the clothes they have for kids but in adult sizes.

Yeah, we saw some of the Dizzney lingere stuff at Disneyland Paris.

They've got a whole line of adult clothes 'n stuff in the Dizzney stores here, but none of it features Stitch (it's mostly Tinkerbell and Pirates of the Caribbean), so we've been ignoring it.
