...we don't steal all our images from Yahoo Japan auctions.

Just most of them.

Anywho, we actually own these plushies, and thus took our own damn pictures.

Supposed to be Chinese Dragons, we suppose. Or maybe just Kukla's buddy Ollie from the old kid's show.

Part of the Japanese New Year involves shishimai, the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese Dragon Dance. Shishi literally means lion, and it's considered lucky to have the shishigashira (lion head) "bite" your hand.

Oops, Wikipedia tells me that I've confused the Chinese dragon dance (many people) with the lion dance (two people, the head and the rest of the body). I think the Japanese lion dance varies in the number of people participating.

When I was visiting Singapore a few years back, we saw some people dancing around in similar Dragon-esque headdresses. One of the kids told my friend, in English (or Singlish) that they were doing to "lion dance." Which has confused me to this day.

Kukla, Fran and Ollie!

It's been a while since I heard those names.

But then, I'm old.
