AirTran Airways defends decision to remove family from plane after toddler’s temper flares

ORLANDO, Fla. - AirTran Airways on Tuesday defended its decision to remove a Massachusetts couple from a flight after their crying 3-year-old daughter refused to take her seat before takeoff....

She was removed because ”she was climbing under the seat and hitting the parents and wouldn’t get in her seat” during boarding, Graham-Weaver said.....

The father said his family would never fly AirTran again.

Finally, someone takes a strong stance against the toddlers who terrorize American's skies. As a frequent victim of seatback-kickers and over-seat-droolers, we salute you, AirTran!

sigh I wish Southwest would do that too sometimes. People don't realize that you have a window to keep on schedule and they have pre-boards for that reason. If it takes you security and tranquilizers to get your kid in order, maybe you need to rethink your travel arrangements?? (yeah I'm mean)

I don't know how many flights I've been on with the seat-kickers and the screamers.. omg and the drunk chick from Vegas. YIKES! (at least she wasn't so drunk she was going to barf.. but you know the laughing & kicking and screaching in my ear thing.. yikes).

Hey I'd be all for kicking off any brat too, especially if they were playing with FLARES!! ^0^

Oh and BTW, be VERY glad you weren't with ME on the Northwest flight to Japan where a certain mother changed the VERY SMELLY diaper of her baby SEVERAL TIMES!!

(I'm suprised nobody complained to the stewardess, um, ATTENDANT!)

Heard a similar story from a friend about a non-stop flight from Rome to L.A. Not only did the same 'smelly' thing happen (why do these mothers have to do it in the coach section & not go to the lavatory?!?). Same mother ignored said toddler the entire flight except when changing him - leaving him to his older sister (while the baby was screaming for his mother the entire time). The father? He had put his headphones on the moment he sat down & ignored his family the entire flight.

My Mom used to bring all kinds of sticker books and stuff for us when we flew. She ended up giving up at least one to some other kid who was bored, though (which made me jealous). If you're going to take a kid on a six hour flight (or however long it is), bribe them.

It must be truly horrible to keep a kid entertained nowadays, when they don't even feed you on flights. I know I've often felt like throwing a tantrum.

Right, and then parents act surprised when a six-year-old is being a brat. Kids aren't just miniature adults and both the parents and the other passengers would be a lot less miserable if they didn't try to treat them as such.

It's this sort of thing that makes me feel my evilest. If people have no clue how to raise a kid to act like a decent human being, they shouldn't have kids. It's all well and fine to allow the little darling to do whatever he/she wants when you're all at home, but then don't act all surprised when you take the kid out in public and it goes ballistic, and you just sit there like you always do, and then other people don't like it.

If *I* had acted like that in public, I would've gotten SMACKED so hard my head would've come off.
