'Tis our new word! Thanks to our barrista! Because, barristas know all

Dromomania, also called travelling fugue, is a psychological condition in which people spontaneously depart their routine, travel long distances and take up different identities and occupations. Months may pass before they return to their former identities.

It mostly strikes only French people, alas.

I'd heard of the term "fugue" thanks to an 8th grade project (we were supposed to study the life of someone we admired, dress up as them and recite a biographical riddle, etc. I chose Agatha Christie because I was in awe at how many mystery novels she wrote, and was surprised to find out that she'd had a fugue episode that had somehow been neglected in her autobiography.)

...but the term "dromomania" was new to me.. Thanks for the new word!

I desperately need to have a case of dromomania (or fugue). So what happens to your 'old' life? What does one tell one's spouse, etc.?
