From In Mexico, young and thin are often job requirements, in today's LA Times:

An ad on one of Mexico's largest online job sites sought a man aged 25 to 30 to work in Mexico City. The candidate must stand at least 5 feet 9 inches tall, weigh 154 to 176 pounds and be possessed of a "good presentation."

A listing for a spokesmodel? No, this is an ad for a job driving a Coca Cola truck.

They also prefer married men, since they believe it makes them less likely to be teh gay.

And cute, young women, because, ya know.

Don't click on the article unless you wanna get cranky like old Auntie Tiki.

That reminded me of something I heard at a Career Day fair in high school.

This gentleman was speaking to our class (he owned a hotel chain here in town with some hotels in various parts of Mexico). And he told us that over there in Mexico, it was standard procedure to submit a photo with your resume. And yeah, all the little voluptous blondes get hired on while anyone else (fat, brunette, old) was given the shaft. Next time you go to a newstand, look at all the Latin-oriented magazines. A good chunk of them will prominently feature some blonde pixy vixen on the cover.

If you know anything about psychology research, the LAST thing you'd ever do is submit a photo with your application, unless you happen to look like a cover girl. People *definitely* discriminate against fat/dark/old/what have you....

I'll go and click when I'm in a good mood. Or too drunk to really care then.

In France, you wouldn't be able to put up such an ad because you'd be accused of discrimation. Of course, it doesn't mean that French bosses don't discriminate against what's considered old & ugly. Or for example, good luck finding a job if you're a 30-year old woman without kids. They assume you'll want to breed as soon as you're hired and they don't want to pay for your maternity leave.

You're not supposed to do it here either. But if you read the article (which I'd urge you to down a couple before you click) it's *American* companies who are joining in to assure low bimbo unemployment rates.

This has nothing to do with your post, but have you seen the barrettes with Stitch ears from the Tokyo Disney park?
