We've been waiting for this doll for many years now.

No, the post office has not quite suddenly gotten a lot worse, although that's a possibility.

This is Magical Emi, from the anime, Magical Emi. (Duh.) Or more properly, Mahou no Star Magical Emi. It's a magical girl show. (Double duh.) Not sure about the provenance of this doll, but the show dates from around the mid-80s.

Anyway, many moons ago, when Tikistitch was stupid and careless enough to start scanning the Japanese auction boards, this doll was literally one of the first anime dolls we spotted. The seller was asking a bushel of money for her however, and as we didn't presently possess a bushel of money (nor, being city-bred, even have a fair idea of what a "bushel" might constitute), we watched the doll go unsold for several rounds, and then promptly disappear into the ether.

How many search strings we poured out in search of her! Until, finally, one day, this doll popped up. Then, after a furious round of bidding, in which we were summarily sniped by a crazy person, the much crazier Tikistitch finally won out.

Only to have the dealer list an identical doll the very next day.

If you'll notice the illustrations on the back of her box, it appears Emi harbors a wonderful action feature! Although we located the button on her back, we did no succeed in illuminating her tie. (Remember, this doll was manufactured during the heyday of Wang Chung, when music was poor, and battery life poorer.)

I'd do the same thing if I could find teh Kei and Yuri dolls.

I wanted those so bad, but when I fiannly got the guts to ask my mom to buy them for me.. they where sold out from teh sci-fi catalog.

I was about 14 when this happened.

If I had the money I would hunt those 2 down or if I had to choose I'd hunt the Yuri doll down and fight to the teeth to get her.

Do you ever bid on Yahoo Japan? I see them there all the time. I could send you a link next time they're up if you want.

Wow! A Studio Pierrot Akemi Takada designed Magical Girl show doll :) I've only seen a bit of Creamy Mami in french, and if you see them, the 9.99 Fancy LaLa DVD's Bandai released recently are a STEAL [very cute show, with great artwork, form 98 or so].

My holy anime grail was getting a Sailor Saturn doll. Glad Irwin made one before closing out forever. That an a CCS Tomoyo, but those are hard to come by nowadays. Just got Barbie as Batgirl, who is very cute though :)
[I don't collect many dolls, and mostly collect transformers/starwars/superhero/giantrobot stuff, but I'm a sucker for anime merchandise when I see it]

I haven't seen Fancy LaLa! I have seen the others, as well as one episode of Persia/Pelsia/whatever, which seemed really odd. I wonder if they made a LaLa doll?

Congrats on finding your doll!

Aside: As a child, I could never tell Magical Emi and Creamy Mami apart. :p I think Creamy Mami was the one with the two alien cats, but damned if I can remember what (if any) cute animal sidekicks Magical Emi had.
