My box from Volks arrived!

That was quick. It should be, after paying $42 for postage (grumble, grumble).

This doll is based on a video game, Das Ring des Niebelungen, which I suppose is based on a Wagner opera.

Why you'd wanna base a video game on a turgid tetralogy, I dunno. Being cursed with congenital lameness, I haven't played the game. Do you suppose it's over when the fat lady sings, hahahaha?

I have a couple other characters from this series. Not all of them, just the weirdest ones.

Fel's got great blue hair.

Is that your sword, or are you just happy to see me?

Here's the pamphlet that was included with the doll.

Of course, after paying $160 for the doll, plus $42 for shipping, you're still supposed to assemble and paint the sword by yourself.

Volks also kindly enclosed some timely catalogs from doll shows that occurred last February in the box.

Arigato!

Huh. The Ring dolls are based on a videogame? I kind of assumed that it was Volks' second Original Storyline With Dolls, to follow up the Lost Angels saga.

From what I recall from the website, Volks' Ring story is about various maidens who are reborn/reincarnated forms of the Valkyries, maidens who are doomed to eternal battle.

If you're interested, I can translate Fel's bio/story info.

Oooh, she's very cute. I really like her hairstyle. This is the first Volks doll in a while that is remotely tempting.

I heard they were based on a game back when Volks issued the first round of dolls. But, at this point, I'm not exactly sure where I heard it from! Possibly an auction description, which are notoriously unreliable.

Here's where I keep images of the other Ring dolls I own

I'd love to hear a translation of Fel's story!

I only have vague memories of Volks' old Ring site, but I believe there was something about how each girl had a mystical jewel that represented the soul of the Valkyrie that she's descended from/reincarnation of.

Here's Fel's info, from your scan and Volks' website:

"The Ring of the Niebelungen... It was a cursed ring entrusted to Brunhilde, the Warrior Maiden.

This is the epic of the young maidens who are re-born, who re-die, and are eternally cast in the midst of battle.

Even as time passes, and the Earth revolves, they will continue their battle in an unchanged form."

Fel is a pure young maiden who has inhereited the soul of Hjalmvítr *
Yet the mystical sword she holds in her hands contains within it the darkest of evil, the strongest of hate and the most powerful of evil spells!

In the far northern lands, the maiden swings her sword. Defeating evil with evil...

Will the young girl ever know a time of peace? When will her soul be at peace, as she is given respite by the SkyFather at the holy shrine?

The pure mystical swordswoman... her name is Fel. Fel of the Hjalmvítr.

Yeah, she kinda looks like a teeny-weeny Chii.

That's cool! Fel of the Hjalmvitr!!

Can I possibly ask another favor of you? Could you please tell me the correct translation of this doll's name?

I think it's something like Orufa, but that doesn't sound like a name. Maybe Orphe? But that's a different universe!

Apparently I'm a dork. :(

I just did a search on Wagner's Die Walkure, and apparently all of the names are just cribbed from that. So Fel's name is supposed to be "Helmwige" (pronounced Helm-vi-ge). I still hold out the faint hope that Helmwige is a variation on Hjalmvitr, but I may just be insane.

The girly in your pic there is "Orphe" (pronounced Or-feh), and she houses the soul of Ortlinde (another Wagnerian name).

Royce the kitty-girl apparently houses the soul of Rosseweisse (pronounced ross-vice).

Hahahaha! ^_^ German pronunciations are obscure for me. A native speaker once spent a good 20 minutes trying to get me to emit the correct vowel sound on "Das Boot." All in vain!

Many thanks for all the translations!

No, this was directly from Volks. I won the lottery for it in the Dolpa 12 after event.
