Some linkie things from the Intarwebs.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] gothiclibrarian, did you see this article in the NY Times?

WASHINGTON, July 11 — It reads like a tally of terrorist targets that a child might have written: Old MacDonald’s Petting Zoo, the Amish Country Popcorn factory, the Mule Day Parade, the Sweetwater Flea Market and an unspecified “Beach at End of a Street.”

But the inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security, in a report released Tuesday, found that the list was not child’s play: all these “unusual or out-of-place” sites “whose criticality is not readily apparent” are inexplicably included in the federal antiterrorism database.

The National Asset Database, as it is known, is so flawed, the inspector general found, that as of January, Indiana, with 8,591 potential terrorist targets, had 50 percent more listed sites than New York (5,687) and more than twice as many as California (3,212), ranking the state the most target-rich place in the nation....

ZOMG, Al Qaeda is after our petting zoo......

And...didja all see the Buffy pilot on Youtube??? They even used a Bob Mould song over the end credits! ♥♥♥

The man is, after all, the reason I went into web development.

Really? What was the connection? I don't think I've heard this story.

In 1996, Rykodisc were looking for a web development intern, no experience necessary, preferably familiar with Ryko artists. I was a junior in college at the time, and as big a Mould fan as ever, so I went for the job. Worked there for 18 months and wound up going into web development after college, for better or worse.

Oh, you worked for Ryko? They've gotten a *lot* of my money over the years.

If you ever get a yen to move to Seattle, think about sending a resume our way, ok? That's what Mr. Tiki does--manage a bunch of webdevs.

Sounds like Indiana's being rewarded for voting Repub. Ah, pork politics @ its best.

We don't even have significant national parks or memorials; just a butt-kissing Governor (Bush II's fmr. Director of the Office of Management and Budget) and 1 powerful Republican Senator (Lugar).

In reality, probably the only "real" terror target in Indiana is the Newport Chemical Facility. Speaking of -- I just got something from the US Army Materials Agency stating that a whopping 15% of the VX stockpile has been destroyed.

I am gonna forward that link to all my colleagues cause I hadn't seen it yet. Thanks!!!

I had heard the list was bogus, but I didn't know it was going to be *so* bogus.

just a butt-kissing Governor (Bush II's fmr. Director of the Office of Management and Budget)

Oh dear. I am so sorry.

We've at least had some money thrown at our local port security, but only because Patty Murray is skilled at working with that old batshit, Ted Stevens.

well, I am sure the two Los Angeles Harbor Port Inspectors here sure will be happy to know the Indiana Petting Zoo is so well protected. After all, just don't know what terrorists might ship in there with the animal feed bags.

and YEAH for Buffy!!! Thank you. Just after I registered for classes for the Fall semester, you reward us with this! Oh those school days...

Oh, and here's the report the NYT is citing from: http://www.dhs.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/OIG_06-40_Jun06.pdf

The only way I can find to access this via dhs.gov is to do a keyword search using "database" and it's the top link. No linkie on the press pages though...
