We are probably the only person on our FL who digs this item, but soooooo what?

This is a little internal thingie-dealie Disney threw together to inspire the good folks working on Lilo & Stitch merch.

But you don't have to go very far before you get to....

...a warning! Oooo, so don't look, or Dizzney will get Interpol on yo' ass!

Check out the date: November 9, 2000. L&S was not officially released in the US until 2002.

The book's pages look like they've been color-xeroxed. Looks like it's something they sent out to licensees. It includes info on the plot and characters, and "positioning" about who the film is marketed towards. (Think girls and boys aged 2-8. Yup, that's right, you are too old to be liking Lilo & Stitch!!) We like this conceptual collage that's supposed to help one thinking about products for girls, or as the books would have it, "Sassy surfers."

More collages (don't Marketing people love collages? What, were they all paste-deprived as preschoolers?), this one aimed at the boys campaign, "Sci-Fi Beach Party." Hey, Dizzney, it's SF!! Don't wanna offend a bunch of future nerds? A couple pages in, they recommend you think, "Space meets surf; Edgy meets laid-back." It sounds like a new band.

There's even little samples of the color palette. One for boys, and one for girls! (The girls palette is all in pretty flowers.)

There's also a lot of chara and background design from the movie, including this drawing from Chris Sanders. Makes it look like the movie was pretty much complete at this time. The timeline in the back suggests that the movie will be screened for "2-3 key retailers" in January of 2002. Which means Walmart prolly got to see it before you did.

AUGH! Where on earth did you find that?! I'm always looking for style guides, but they are so impossible to come by (mostly 'cause Disney kicks you in the rear if you don't return them). Sooooo coool!!

Omigawd, somebody else who likes weird pre-production stuffs?? ^_^

Got it off a seller on eBay who had a lot of similar Disney books/cast items. She had the price at near $100 originally, but it slowly knocked down when nobody bid. If you're interested in more images, LMK. As I said, it looks like it was produced on a color Xerox, so the quality is OK, but not great.

I have one for Men in Black, but it's nowhere near that good. Which probably explains why most of the MIB merch sucked.

It's kind of sad to see the phrase "consumer products" on the front cover. It's so blatantly "Go forth and design cute stuff to get those monkeys to GIVE US ALL THEIR DOUGH!!!"

I LOVE pre-production things! I have a variety of xeroxed model sheets collected from various animators for smaller production shows. It's soooo hard to get ahold of any disney stuff, unless you buy it from a gallery, and it's original. Or it's super pricey. I go crazy when I find anything like that, it's just harder to come across. And yes yes! More images! More!

Haha, that's pretty cool. I'm surprised the person got away with selling it, it doesn't seem like something Disney would want out in the public.

I looove seeing concept and development art; I even got the Lilo & Stitch art book. It has all kinds of notes on various things, like how female Stitchus would have long tails (and they don't! shame on the creators of those like Angel or Bonnie) and how Stitch hates sugar (which makes all those Halloween images/toys of him with candy inappropriate, haha).
