Be-set, Part The Third
Mar. 16th, 2006 07:46 amGot swamped and couldn't finish this yesterday, but herein we present, the sets that got away!!! Yes, to our eternal shame, we have incomplete sets.
Like these guys!

This is more Stitchie Valentines Day merch. The little envelopes they're holding open up, so you can insert a note to your sweetie. Or, a little note telling them they're not really your Valentine (
twotone schooled us on this earlier). But, the critical point, there is another! Yep, a light brown guy, on whom we kept getting outbid. Why the run on taupe Valentines Stitches? Some things must remain a mystery.

Sometimes, this lack of completion boils down to our own damn fault. As in these elegantly clad Stitch and Angel plushies.

Like the dragons? They had other permutations of this look, including more sizes, but for whatever reason, these particular items lacked a fiery coolness factor that drove us on to collect 'em all.

Some holy grails, however, defy us. We shared this image yesterday, a Pooh Bear dressed as pink Stitch. But, as we've known for at least a year now, these guys come in all the colors of the rainbow! Our friend Boneboy brought back actual photographic evidence from Japan. Yet, we only have this one. Oh, the pain!!

Here is the thing that truly makes us cross about collecting Japanese UFO catcher goods. Even when you've collected 'em all, they'll change the rules! Exhibit A, we had a set of winking/non-winking chibi Pooh-as-Stitch, then we came across this scary chibi Pooh-as-GREY-Stitch. Wait, mutant color variations now?

Exhibit B. We were also oh so smug about our complete collection of See No Evil monkey catchers, until we spied this King Kong-sized example. You mean they make them in giant size too? Ach!!

Date: 2006-03-16 09:15 am (UTC)I only saw one black Stitch and the rest were normal blue.
I did score quite a few goodies from the official Disney Store. Oddly enough, the hotel convenience store also sold a ton of Disney stuff including Angel (Exp 624) plush, so I bought EVERY SINGLE ONE of the Angels with the intent to sell the extras on eBay. And I thought the mark-up was bad on the Japanese Yahoo Auctions, but looking at the original pricetags (which the store increased with its own sticky pricetags by about 10%), they aren't cheap to begin with. A standard beanie Angel plush for 1800 yen. Whoa.
...of course, she is ADORABLE and is soft as lost-duckling down. Mmmmmmm.

Date: 2006-03-16 09:38 am (UTC)The secret I've heard on UFO catchers is to maneuver the item closer to the slot and then *knock* it down with the claw. You're right, those things couldn't lift a postage stamp.

Date: 2006-03-16 10:31 am (UTC)Gaaa.... now I know. Well, for my next trip. lol
"buy 'em all" BTW meant basically 2 extra sets of the large, medium, and small plushes. I still managed to spend $180 worth in that store alone. A convenience store. That didn't take credit cards. And whose in-store ATM wouldn't take Cirrus or Plus. So I had to go to the concierge desk and ask where the "yubinkyoku" was, and then walk to the post office, try to figure out how to withdraw money from the "ATM" -- turns out I could only withdraw $100 as a visitor to the system. What a pain; what should have only taken me 5 minutes to shop ended up taking me 30.

Date: 2006-03-16 10:38 am (UTC)I had stores refuse to take my credit card pretty much at random--I could use it at one Disney Store, but not another in the same town. I ended up like you did, going to the post office nearly every morning for cash.
Did you get to Tokyo Disneyland?
