Is Stitch getting too big for his britches?

Nope, but he may be a bit small for his kabuto.

It's a little early for Boy's Day (which is not 'til may), but we can't leave a box unopened.

Eeeeeeeeeee!!

This is the Stitchie version of a traditional Japanese Boy's Day doll, which families display around their house on May 5th.

According to what we've read, the dolls are often clad in armor, and are supposed to represent "samurai virtues."

Though we're not quite sure what samurai virtue Stitch is supposed to embody...

....unless "fluffiness" is a virtue.

No doubt, this is one of the cutest items ever to come from Tokyo Disney. In case you want to compare, here's an image of a more traditional gogatsu ningyo we googled--looks kinda familiar.

Heh, you inspired me to look up how to say "fluffy" in Japanese.

The adjective is "fukafukashita"; the verb ("to become fluffy") is "kebadatsu" written with kanji for "hair feathers stand up". The first looks like an onomatopoeic word followed by past tense conjugation of "to do" -- a common way of verbifying nouns or adjectives. Onomatopoeic words in Japanese are almost (if not) always a repeated two-syllable sound (e.g., pikapika = sparkle; fuwafuwa = airy). I can imagine "fukafuka" being the sound of fluffing out laundry or pillows, so if something did "fukafuka" it thus would be fluffy, hence "fukafukashita" being the word. That's just my guess, though.

I've seen "fukafuka" used (rarely) for plush toys, but I had no idea what it meant. I haven't yet seen it as a descriptor for samurai, but will keep an eye out. ^_^

It's from Tokyo Disneyland. I bought it from a Japanese auction board, but you can also look on eBay. Or you can go to Tokyo Disneyland (highly recommended!!!).

Cool, I'll have to check out eBay. I have a question, why don't you have any of this stitch stuff on that website you link to?

'Cause I've been an ANIME TOY collector for over a decade now, it's just in the last couple years, this fuzzy blue invader has started taking over my house & my collection.
