Yup, Italian Lilo & Stitch biscotti, thanks to our pals keeper1st and penelopecat. Grazie molto!!!





It appears that this product was meant to promote the release of Stitch Has a Glitch in Italia. Amusingly, the title is rendered "che disastro, Stitch!" which Babelfish renders as "That Disaster, Stitch."



Anyways, this is your fun prize, le Go!Card. Note that it's animated....



...and shaped like a puzzle piece. This will be important later!!!



The bottom of the box helpfully displays all of the Go!Cards in the set.



The top of the box, if we are to believe Altavista's translation program, describes a fiendishly complicated game you can play with your Go!Cards once your teeth have all rotted out from eating 147 boxes of chocolate biscotti.



The back of the box relates several construction projects involving interlocking the puzzle-shaped Go!Cards...



...including how to construct your own little cube, mouse pad, or a replica of the Roman Aquaeduct.



As an added bonus, here's a look at the Ciok mascot with instructions on proper nutrition with chocolate biscotti, yogurt and orange juice. Hmmm. Have we noted lately that we wish to move to Italy?

The scariest thing is that I believe "CIOK" is pronounced something like "chalk," which is NOT something I'd like to find in *my* biscotti.

Tsk, yes, R.I.P, The Old Man. Gus and I never receive a package marked "FRAGILE" without thinking of him in A Christmas Story.

Yes, "Ciok" simply is the beginning of the word "cioccolata" (chocolate). I prefer to think of the scary dude as Chuck! That image of a whole bunch of the cards is not all of them, though, for we have two that aren't shown on the box. I wonder how many there really are...

That translation makes good sense actually. I was reading it as "What a disaster, Stitch!" because those sort of expressions are rendered that way, e.g., "Che pasticchio!" (literally, "That/What pie!" but used kind of like our "What a pickle!" -- which is how I translated it in THIS PAGE of an Italian comic book I was "scanlating" into English but never finished).

I suppose either way makes good punny sense, though. "What a disaster, Stitch"... as in stating that Stitch is a disaster, or addressing Stitch about something.

Speaking of Stitchy stuff from other countries, my landlord suddenly for no particular reason has a Stitch refrigerator magnet. It's one of those rubbery flat things with a hole on one end that you put your favorite picture behind. I think it came from the UK because of the wording underneath: "Coming to cinemas this 29 August." It's a promo for the original movie, with Stitch in his spacesuit in full alien mode reaching out at you menacingly.

And I never did tell you what bits I can understand from the Japanese trailer, did I? Well, other than Lilo praying, "God, send me a friend, please..." Soooo, here's what I can remember now off the top of my head:

The "I'm lost!" scene: Stitch says, "Boku no kazoku... doko?" which means "My family... where?"

The character voiceovers: a tearful Stitch says, "Lilo wa boku no kazoku. Kono mama ja boku no kazoku abunai. Sayounara, Lilo..." which means "Lilo my family. As things are, family in danger. Sayonara, Lilo..."

Character voiceovers: Lilo says, "Stitch wa kazoku. Kazoku nara itsumademo isshou," which means "Stitch is family. Family is always & forever" (well, literally probably closer to "always for as long as you like").

As the image song (that Faith Hill song) begins, the text basically reads: "World premiere record!" -- it's a Japanese trailer thing, just like the bits where characters speak "off the set".

The voiceover once the image song begins says -- and this really shows how different the focus of the trailer is compared to the "Here comes an alien menace!" trailers we had -- "Hitori botsu no onna no ko to hitori botsu no alien," which means, "One lonely girl and one lonely alien."

There are a few other words I can understand here and there, but to get the meanings I would have to write down the bits I don't understand and look 'em up. I should do that one day.

The text at the end, before the premiere date is shown, reads, "You will never forget this chance meeting..."

Just curious: are there actually some images different from the ones shown, or is it different image/background combinations than the box depicts? I'm getting a collection of I think 27 from a dealer in Italy, but I don't know if that's supposed to be complete.

I was intrigued that the images appear to be from the original Lilo & Stitch movie (Gantu isn't even in Glitch), like maybe this was leftover promotional material they already had.

We have two cards whose images are not shown on that box at all. One of them has two images of Jumba and Pleakley (one normal; one in disguise); another has a couple different images of Stitch, including the one I mentioned of him doing a stoppie on the Big Wheel (a pose which I now have seen also as an outline car window sticker).

But yeah, I figure they're all standard model sheet poses from the original movie, even if some of the actual poses are ones I hadn't seen before.

It was funny seeing the end of the original movie on TV recently. I hadn't realized how much Gantu has shrunk since then! Stitch used to be the size of one of Gantu's toenails, but he's about knee-high to the shrunken TV series Gantu.

According to one of the L&S Series producers (who used to post on an online forum) that was a cost consideration for making the TV show, along with some less obvious things like shrinking Jumba's eyes. I don't know enough about animation to know if this is correct, but I can see the difficulties of animating such differently-scaled characters.
