Frida Kahlo dolls outrage Mexican art lovers
A plan by a Mexican company to create a Frida Kahlo doll has created a controversy in the artist's homeland.
Kahlo, the famed Mexican painter who died in 1954, has a wide international following. Her family has been able to parlay her popularity in Mexico into a line of jewellery, clothing and a brand of tequila with her name on it. The doll is the newest addition.
"We know there are people who will not like it and they are within their rights to think what they want. We are looking after Frida's image," Mara de Anda, the granddaughter of Kahlo's niece, told Reuters.
The 20-inch Kahlo doll will be available in Canada, as well as Mexico, the United States, Germany, France and Spain.
