Mighty Metafilter finds my house.

Anger ensues. "OMG teh K0llekt0rz!"

Best snark:

These people are very different from me and therefore I hate them.

BTW, does anyone have a MeFi account? I'd love to reply to this gentleman, but won't spend $5.

As a collector, I don't understand all the hate flying around here. It's pretty obvious, reading some of their personal info on Gus's site, that he and his wife have worked very, very hard to be able to afford all that stuff. Why some people care if they choose to buy a bunch of Star Wars merchandise and decorating their house with it instead of buying a sports car, expensive clothes, a giant McMansion or something more "normal" is beyond me.

Frankly, I think people that don't collect or at the very least have a fannish enthusiasm for something are pretty bland.

Actually, we have a sportscar too MegoSteve!! ^_^

UPDATE: Mr. Tiki got a MeFi account and replied last night. Madness, a la Rear Window, ensues. (OMG, Gus&Pam have teh Internetz too!!!!111)

All those people saying you guys are "sad" and "pathetic" don't see the irony screaming right at them: they, who consider themselves SO MUCH BETTER than you guys, get big kicks out of MAKING FUN OF PEOPLE THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW ON THE **INTERNET.**

THAT, my friends, is sad and pathetic.

I think you guys rock! And I'll defend your right to decorate your house any way you want to most ferociously, from my home filled with model horses, anime toys, and taxidermy!!

Yeah, it's totally weird getting that kind of feedback from MeFi addicts! Though I do agree that the JarJar is scary.

I was surprised by how many people assume there's still cereal in all the cereal boxes. I mean, people, some of those boxes are from the 70s!!

And it was also weird how many folks apparently think it's a new house, when the picture at the top of the page makes it obvious it's a Victorian....

Heh, sweetie, at least we're your people... not that I'd imply anything about Tiki and Mr. Tiki's sex life, of course, would be very rude and immodest... but I have other obsessed friends, you see. And am Of the Nerd. And after reading the bit about the cantina orgy, I blinked and realized I find people who HAVEN'T done a bit of sexy Leia roleplaying... well, highly odd.

(Not that I don't prefer the droids myself but *coughs* ahem.)

*beams* I know, I know, some of the new Marvel Legends are truly massive, no?

There are SO many ways to play with one's toys. Mwahahah.

I think collecting is whimsical in many ways if you don't overdo it. Sure you guys have a whack of stuff, but you do other things too.

http://www.toysrgus.com/gusandpam/animeroom.html When my plushies die will they too go to Plushie heaven?

Mind you, I have tons of crap, so I'm probably not a good judge of these things :)

Ha! The "plushie heaven" name is kind of a joke between me and Mr. Tiki, since he finds the plushies disturbing. A lot of male type persons get kind of disturbed by all the pinkness of my room. My friend Boneboy and I once threatened to lock his little brother in my room, and the kid ran off screaming. heehee....

I'm that MegoSteve guy

Your husband and I have been trading email a bit tonight and he sent me a link to your blog post. Feel free to reply here.

Actually, if you want to reply to the whole fiasco here, I'd be happy to post a link, except you'd probably be overrun by people who are angry that you can afford to buy things and have different taste than they do.

Howdy! Yeah, Gus said he'd emailed you. Thanks for the offer, but I'll just take my hubby's advice for once and stay out of it. ^_^

I just wanted to tell you, I totally agree, it's people *without* any fandom that scare me most....

It all seemed to be about trying to top each other for the most cutting remarks. How dull.

I'm jealous though--you're an internet celebrity!

You own the Death Star. If you could afford that, along with prototypes, life-sized statues (Someday when I hit it big, I will have to get my own Darth Maul!), and other fandoms on top of that-- I think you deserve respect. Your house could pose to be a private museum of sorts.

I think the topic stemmed mostly from jealousy. I'm quite envious of the content of your house, myself! XD;

You're a unique couple with a unique mission. :3

Actually, the Maul wasn't terribly expensive--I think Gus paid like $100 for it. It was the transportation that was a bitch. Those Pepsi displays don't disassemble, so at one point, we rented an SUV and transported a Maul & Jar Jar back from Canada, all wrapped in plastic, with Jar Jar's head sticking through the seats. We thought we'd have a horrible time coming back through Customs, but we said "Star Wars statues" and they just waved us through.

Those hateful comments make me want to kick some dumbasses. Or slash their heads and nuts with my lightsaber. I'm a dumb collector too, my friends are dumb collectors, but you know what ? I think we enjoy ourselves a lot more than those peeps who crave a "normal life". Oh, and I have a Jar Jar head on a shelf, near my alien-in-a-jar in the toilets. And when people don't like it, I suggest they take a leak elsewhere.
Go on collecting crazy stuff. You've introduced me to a whole new realm of concepts, such as the wonderful cereal room.

And those who think you don't have a life should read all your non-toys entries.

What kind of sports car? There's a guy I used to know who has a collectible Ferrari that's worth tons of money. If that was ME I'd have a door so I could drive it from the garage into my living room. Not only would it be hard to steal but if I had THAT much money in a car I could look at it more often!! ^_^

Hm, I always figured your hubby worked at lucasarts or ILM or something??? If not, that makes your SW collection even more impressive!

Call that snark? What a bunch of pussies.

I've seen way too many homes full of stuff that the inhabitants don't actually like but think they ought to have. This world needs more cereal rooms.

It was weird when Gus responded. You can tell by the timestamps that there was complete silence for a bit, and then suddenly a bunch of collectors come out of the woodwork. Like, um, we have a web page, did you guys think we didn't have Internets?
