Dispatches from Mr. Tiki
Sep. 12th, 2005 08:29 amMr. Tikistitch is touring Iceland. We were a bit nervous, as we hadn't heard from him since last Thursday, while he was still in London. But, yesterday, our hubby evidently found an internet cafe, or at least a location that would let him plug in his laptop, and fired off the following message, relating his adventures with a dodgy rental car. Once again, this is 100% authentic email from our spouse:

BTW, if you are wondering how this exciting tale ends, as it turns out, he had all the cereal boxes already.
i woke up in this beautiful town in northern iceland thats in a fjord called akureyri. forgive the keyboard since it has all sorts of goofy icelandic characters. anyway, i drove to this volcanic area thats sorta like yellowstone with mud pots, bubbling stuff, volcanoes, hot springs, etc. checked that out for several hours and then drove off towards a desert area towards my next destination. on the way my transmission dies. engine runs but car wont go into gear. i was literally in the middle of freakin nowhere and quite pannicked since Im on the other side of iceland from reykjavik airport where I got my rental car. so i walked a few miles to the nearest town..fortunately i was not far from a town...it could have been very bleak based on some of the places I've been visiting. it was snowing as I walked to the town. I found a gas station and wandered in. they had some groceries on the shelves and I noticed a few of the E3 star wars boxes. priorities kicked in, so i pulled out my list and checked if i needed any of the boxes....
