As all and sundry know by now, this was the release date for Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, Dizzney's latest direct-to-DVD masterpiece. But unlike certain others of its ilk (we won't name names, though it begins with "S" and ends with "titch the Movie"), this puppy is actuallly good.

Crappy cell phone pictures galore under the cut.

We were lured to the environs of Toys B Us with inducements of a free plush toy with every pre-order. Thus, we took the car to work this morning, which we never do, believing as we do in public transportation, besides which, there's never parking in the U District, and even if you do find it, everybody honks at you the whole time you parallel park.

At 10:00 am P.D.T. precisely, we zoomed off to the Northgate Mall, hoping for Stitchiness.

Indeed, we were greeted at the door with a modest 6-foot display pack loaded with videos and DVDs. Ooo, we wants the display!!! You can spin the Stitchie, wheeee!!!

Success! Booty: one DVD, plus one China-made fully surface washable plush toy roughly approximating Stitch's character design.

Hmmmm...good, you say. We were going to order it online, but now I'm kind of tempted to pick it up on the way home.

Incidentally, wasn't this supposed to coincide with the long-delayed, once-cancelled Lilo & Stitch 2-disc Special Edition? Have you heard any word on when/if that's actually going to come out here?

I don't know WTF happened with the two-disk special edition!! I already have the Region 2 ed that a friend picked up for me in Mexico, and it's just awesome. I know they have it in other countries. The last I read (on the Ultimate Disney DVD site), the US release had been pushed back *again* 'til 2006. *sigh*

Well, sheesh. That's no good.

I don't suppose it has the originally animated ending, does it? I've always wanted to see that version.

Heehee, it happens when you share a 'pooter.

Glitch is good. I wouldn't say it's up to the original, and I quite honestly don't think it should've been released in theaters, but the animation is super, Dakota does a lovely job (IMHO) as the voice of Lilo, and there's MORE ELVIS!!

You mean where Stitch hijacks the 747? Yup, it's on there, along with the lonesome death of Pudge the fish (see why they left it out!!!) and the tsunami warning, which I hadn't heard of before. PLUS, commentary from Chris & Dean, plus a great, lengthy documentary on the making of. I'm like, we need this $#%@& DVD in the USA!!!

Oh, man. You're killin' me. I totally assumed they'd left it out and ignored it in that sort of "Alternate version? WHAT alternate version" mentality that has erased "Empire in the Sun" from history.

We still haven't actually tried out our allegedly region-free DVD player. I'm tempted...

Picked up L&S2 an hour or so ago, so I guess we'll find out tonight!

Yes, it does, as a special feature, as well as other deleted scenes.

Heehee. I was waiting to get home to read, and then suddenly realized, I CAN'T BE SPOILED, I'VE ALREADY SEEN THE #$%&@ MOVIE!!!

Agreed 100% about the intensity. Judging from the howls and sobbing, some little kids at the screening were having a rough time for a little bit. (Or maybe that was *me*?) ^_^

Good, huh? Well, I'm still going to rent it. (I'm terrified that if I buy something like this, execs at Disney will perk up, say, "Aha! See, now ADULT animation buffs are watching these, too! Quick, let's give the green light to Beauty & the Beast 4, Oliver & Company 2, Aristocats 2, Pocahontas 3, and yet another sequel to the Hunchback of Notre Dame, who died in Hugo's book but lives on, unkillable, in the Disney legend! Alright boys, now let's go swimming in our giant vat of money!"

Also, the descriptions I've heard of the deleted scenes are just making me even more impatient for a 2-disc special ed of the first movie. I could import, but as soon as my order shipped, we'd have a release date for the R1 version. I just know it.

Hahaha, we've had a release date for the R1 version! Actually, we've had about 17 different release dates. Since 2002. $#%&@# Dizzney. :-P

The Mexi-copy I own works on Region 1 and 2.
