...in Rose of Versailles goodness.

Many aeons ago, when we were just a minor tiki, we collected many an item of shoujo anime merchandising. Rose of Versailles (Berusaiyu no Bara) was and remains one of our ultimate faves.

This book, from our bud Melinda, was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the show. Like many Japanese books, it is 100% superior to anything produced in the US. It contains some lovely character designs...

And pictures from the wonderful Takarazuka troupe adaptation.

But of course, we immediately turned to the pages of STUFFS!!!

Like pretty, pretty dollies...

And rare fun stuff like RoV slippers!

RoV wine???? Eeeeee!!!!

*drool*....Hey, I think I saw some of those dollies yesterday! Not in person, unfortunately. Someone accidentally took pix of them at a figure con in Japan:

See them sneaking in on the sides? Not sure if they're RoV, but the look like it.

BTW, I did get your paypal and your message. Your email and mine don't seem to get on very well O_o

I actually have that! Lovely book. eBay keeps offering me a $50 red hardback RoV artbook, but it scares me.

When will somebody make the manga widely available in English?

DC might do it...they've been releasing a lot of Old School manga through their manga imprint, CMX. Unfortunately, most of the big US manga houses (Tokyopop, Viz, etc) are focusing almost exclusively on modern titles. Tokyopop even let Sailor Moon go out of print!

I didn't know that! I'm still pissed about no Sailor Stars. Grrrrr...

They did release Sailor Moon StarS 1-3(or 4) about....four years ago? Back when I didn't have money for comics :/ I managed to snag a copy of #2 a few months back, but I'm still missing about 8 books all together from the three series. And now that I have a boyfriend who works at a comic shop, I can't order them!

Gomen, I meant the anime version. I have all these nice boxed sets, and then.... crappy quality fansubs!! Arrrrr!!!

Aaaaaah. I don't have any of the anime yet >_< Manga is my prefered format, and they really pissed me off with the translation changes in SuperS. 'Cousins'...*grumble*. Do the boxed sets have them translated properly? If so then I will see to getting them.

I've only been watching the subtitled versions, and they're fine--Uranus and Neptune are sweeties, AS THEY SHOULD BE.

I tried watching the dub once, and ran screaming. I had to be coaxed back from under the bed with chocolate chip cookies.

Think about snagging the anime while you can, if you're interested in it -- the American releases are going in and out of print as well. (Though this may have been resolved by now.)

I hope so. I totally love The Swan and Eroica.

Rumor has it that Sailor Moon is tied up in some kind of rights hell, so TokyoPop may not be allowed to reprint at the moment. But the only site that's offered specifics (OMG Naoko is pushing the live action and wants us to forget the anime!!!) seems about as reliable as the folks who brought us Prince Uranus. I would love to see remastered backwards Sailor Moon with the stupid teen slang and crapular copy editing fixed.

I totally *heart* old school shoujo too, but it seems like it languishes, while about 857 fansub groups compete to be the first with the new ep of Tokyo Mew Mew or whatever, which is gonna be licensed anyway if they waited 5 minutes.

Totally. I wanna see all the cool shit in Manga! Manga! before I can be arsed to care about the latest based-on-the-blockbuster-video-game, or anything starting out with "Yomoko was an ordinary junior high student, until..." thing.
