Whistle a happy tune. (With a couple of guest stars.)
First and foremost, this is the single MOST ANNOYING DVD I have ever bought, anywhere. A lot of Bolly DVDs contain advertising and previews that you can't skip. This one must have like 20 frickin' minutes of it! I hate being forced to see previews. I bought the damned disk! :-P Eros seems to be the absolute worst about this, so I'll know to avoid buying their crap if possible.
So, on to the actual film. This was another one I bought for eye candy: it stars Arjun Rampal, plus a really cute actress named Vipasha Agarwal I hadn't seen before. Arjun plays a character named Raj who hosts some kind of Hindi talk show in London, called "British Raj." And, yes, he is a bit full of himself. Plus an impossible womanizer. In the opening sequence he makes a pass at his new costar on camera, and then breezes through the offices, flirting with EVERY SINGLE WOMAN who works there.
Somehow, you do not hate the guy. The title sequence is next (above). Raj just seems so happy, it's difficult to dislike him. Then he gets home and sees Shivani out brooding on a balcony. His balcony. In his apartment. As it turns out, she is a ghost only he can see (sound familiar, anybody?), and she needs help. Hijinks ensue as Raj slowly gets accustomed to a spirit in his midst, and then he and his friends are drawn into assisting her.
I'm not going to pretend this was the best movie in the world. It drags in the middle: it's funny the first time Raj screams "ghost" and runs away from Shivani, but by the 6th or 7th time, it's a bit wearing. And then the ending seems rushed, almost as if they ran out of money and decided to resolve all the plot in 5 minutes.
But there's some cute stuff. As I mentioned the music is catchy. It's neat how Shivani doesn't immediately change Raj from his womanizing ways: once he gets used to her presence, his first request is to listen in to some girls in a bar so he can figure out which one to pick up. And ... you get to see Arjun dance! I love how he holds off for a bit and then just kinda goes for it.
