Completely ridiculous but fun anyway.

I sort of got this one on a lark: it's available on Blu Ray, and I liked the title song. But I think it's one of my favorites so far.

This one is a caper movie. I didn't see the first Dhoom, but I don't think that's necessary. Hrithik Roshan is an ultra-super-thief, of the kind that only exist in movies. Abhishek Bachchan is the no-nonsense cop with the sexy voice out to catch him. Aishwarya Rai is the girl Bachchan sends to entrap Hrithik - but, O NOES! - she might just be falling in loooove with him!

Here's what I really enjoyed about this movie: those preposterous heist films? Actually, they're so ridiculous, they work well as a musical comedy! Things here come to a halt a few times an hour for a musical number, but it's good music, good dancing, AND for once they let the musical numbers do some storytelling as well. The video I've posted above comes just after Hrithik and Abhishek have a tense confrontation where they acknowledge that one of them - cop or thief - probably won't make it out of this alive. That's also the comic relief dude and his lady love there dancing, but I think even without having seen the movie, you can figure out who's who and a bit about the relationships. And, you know, you have a thief hang glide onto a moving train, and then escape by snowboarding across sand dunes, I mean, why the hell not also have a musical number?

There's some dumb stuff here. They introduce Abishek's pregnant wife in the first half (I guess she's a carry over from the first movie), and set up a sort of triangle with Abishek's old (female) college buddy, who's now a cop too. But then just let that whole story line drop as they move the story to Brazil for some reason.

Oh, and I had to check the video box to confirm this: sexy Aishwarya ALSO played the shy, upstanding Hindu princess against Hrithik in the Jodha Akbar movie. Pretty impressive actress, I didn't even realize it was the same person. I think it was sort of a cruel trick that they made her character a junk food junkie in this, as I understand the director made her lose tons of weight for this role. Another thing I'm not really liking about Bollywood: looks like a lot of the actresses haven't eaten a bite for months and months.
