Cutiness/Dizzney Sucks Toilet Water
Jul. 19th, 2005 03:03 pmWe're going to do a bit of ranting regarding Disney's presence at San Diego Comic Con in general, and the Stitch Has a Glitch premiere in particular.
But first, alien cutiness!

This toy is basically adorable. It's Japanese, but pretty easy to find on eBay. Basically, a teeny jointed Stitch toy stands on a small pedestal, which is hollowed out so you can attach it to a bottle cap. Then if you make a noise, he "dances," which consists of wiggling his hips rhythmically from side to side.
Now a-ranting we will go.
Disney had a booth at Comic Con, and, perplexingly, like last year, they were incredibly stingy with their swag. Most of the giveaways consisted of stuff that looked suspiciously like last year's "Witch" crap. They also had a display rack of "look but don't take" comics from around the world, which all had disappeared by Thursday.
This is so harsh: after haunting the booth for five days, Wednesday night through Sunday afternoon, we finally found out that they had a small toy to give away. Each day's swag consisted of a plastic bag containing parts that you could put together to assemble a little plastic car of Donald Duck driving with his nephews. However, and here's the kicker, you had to attend the booth every day, Thursday through Sunday, in order to get all four sets of the parts. They obviously had spares around, as I saw one booth bitch give out Saturday's toy to a disabled woman on Sunday. However, for the little bitty kid who came over 2 mintues later, SORRY! You had to be at the booth all 4 days to get a whole toy. Cheap bastards.

This is the other variant of the wiggly Stitch, with his Ugly Duckling book.
OK, so then on Sunday, we went to see the premiere Stitch Has a Glitch, the new direct to DVD offering. The audience basically consisted of us, the loyal Mr. Tikistitch, and about 100 little kiddies (who all, adorably, wailed during the sad parts). 'Twas a cute movie, and, especially after the execrable Stitch! the Movie, we recommend it heartily. However, the "event" consisted of darkening the room, and turning on the DVD player. That was it--NO representative from Disney, no information, no giveaways. Geez, how hard would it have been to send out a flunky to at least stand by and introduce the movie? We would have loved to meet one of the animation crew to thank them!!
