Fact meets fantasy in Disney 'Small World' remake

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Move over, children of the globe — it's a Disney world after all.

More than 40 years after the "It's A Small World" ride opened to promote world peace and showcase the cultures of the world, Disney is populating one of its most beloved attractions with its own trademark vision of the planet: Aladdin, Nemo, Ariel and more than two dozen cartoon characters plucked from its movies.

If you watch the video, one of the interviewees complains about Stitch being there (it's Stitch 'n Bitch!). We know our favorite fluffly blue alien is in the Hong Kong version of the ride, can anyone confirm he's at Dizzyland as well?

Weird! Last I heard (and this was about a year ago) the ride was being closed to make changes to the water flume and boat because the, cough, larger size of the guests was causing the boats to ground and making the ride stop. Nothing else was supposed to change.

I don't have a pass anymore but a friend of mine does so if no one else reports back I'll ask her if the inside of the ride changed. If she can get on it, anyway. Minumum wait time for it was always at least an hour even before it closed.

This was in the business section of the L.A.Times. The article said basically the same things as the one you posted.

When I first heard about this, I thought it was a neat idea. And the ride was originally designed by Mary Blair who did a lot of concept work for Disney films, so it makes sense to incorporate them in. People get so fussy about change. I'm sure Walt Disney could give a crap.

I actually thought the ride was based on maybe a disney film sequence that I'd never seen!

I love the ride, but I don't think a few Disney characters here and there would hurt- having Cinderella would be a nice touch due to the Blair connection, and the ride is fairly large, so I imagine they can add a fair amount of figures without taking many away.

I think people get too negative about changes- having been there number of times now, an occasional change to a ride is a good thing, whether to spruce things up, or to fix something that's either really outdated [the Mexico Ride=A GAZZILLION times better!] or not a bit hit [while the Stitch ride isn't a big hit, it's certainly more wellliked then the Alien Encounter from what I've seen.]

I think they might be leaving the Florida one as is, though there's a big construction area where they're putting in a Stitch stage show [since they're doing some major work, I'm curious if it's more then "Stitch costume person dancing with people in old Captain Eo costumes"]
