Presenting, our Mickeydoki bag!!!!

So, like many things with tiki, this is A Long Story.
Mainly, back in the spring of ought-seven, we were attending the Star Wars convention in downtown LA. Now, one thing about being in downtown LA after around 6-ish: it suddenly morphs from a thriving city into a vast empty wasteland. There is nothing open. NOTHING. So, if you are not a droid, and still need to consume food for sustenance, this can present a problem.

So, we were milling about a shopping mall, waiting to be seated at one of the two eating establishments we'd found that continued to serve food after sundown. Where we stumbled upon an insanely cool handbag. It was full of cutsie anime chara, the kind of thing that makes us squeal with delight. Unfortunately, the silly thing was priced so that it looked like an extra zero had been added to the tag. We put it back on the shelf, and went to get our pizza.

BUT! Some months later, we discovered that the Disney parks had briefly offered for sale very similar bags. With the difference that instead of cute anime-esque chara, they featured cutified versions of Disney chara. Including....you know who!
We added this item to our eBay search forthwith, and finally managed to locate one that cost a bit less than the down payment on Casa de Tikistitch. We bid! And now own a too-expensive but awfully cute anime purse.

Added with amusement: notice the cutsie Eiffel Tower, and the little white kitten beneath? We're pretty sure that's Marie, from The Aristocats. NO ONE cares about this character except the Japanese. Nice touch, Disney.

Date: 2008-12-16 10:59 pm (UTC)It's sooooooooooooooooooooooo cuuuuuuute omg but wait HOW MUCH?
I paid the extra zero for a Hello Kitty makeup pouch-y thing, since Sanrio chara have the same effect on me that Disney do on you. (And by extra zero, I mean one really OUGHT to pay $6 for a Sanrio pouch, but this was, ouch, $60. Black and pink glitter Hello Kitty astronauts, though... um... la la la...)
I've resisted too much. Tokidoki is REALLY CUTE, but even the non-urban vinyl stuff is just tooooo spendy to quite be worth it. Cactus Pups are good, but the whole blind case cost me $40, not $400. :P
