Since [livejournal.com profile] keeper1st has been so patiently waiting....

You can put lipstick on a pig, but then Stitch will get mad that you stole his favorite shade!

And all in Japanese!! WOW!!!

And don't worry, there's Lilo. And, Nani! And the rest!

Major indebtedness to [livejournal.com profile] fushigikb for helping with 8,000 lbs of Stitchie manga!

The lipstick drawing is really interesting. Reading the panels around it, it's obvious Stitch is being naughty and stealing the lipstick, but the onomatopoeia they use is not one I'd think to use. "boonii-boonii" -- I don't think of that as the sound of lipstick going on lips. I think they added a bit of naughtiness to it. Kind of smooshing it and pressing it harder than you normally would.

Well, "bun" is equivalent to "swish", so "buni bunii" is just a variant of that, I imagine.

And yes, that is Stitch saying "Pika Pika!" in one panel. He's not turning into a Pokemon; it means "Sparkly!"

Poor David!

Yeah, I feel sorry for David.

Will be interested to hear your translations! LMK if you need anything rescanned.

ohhhh now I know what I'm doing for the rest of the week...

I just downloaded the third episode of the Survivors remake too... well, I'll watch it tonight and hit the manga tomorrow. Or least that's what I'm telling myself that I'll do.

OK, here's page 1. Lots of Photoshop work required with Nani's dialog over the clouds 'n' stuff.

I wasn't entirely sure about the line:

実はね、
お姉ちゃん
デイヴィッドに
超ゴージャス
デートにさそわれ
たんだって。

I'm not entirely sure whether that reads that David has asked out Nani, or Nani has asked out David. I think it means literally that Nani has been asked out by David. That seems more likely anyway, especially given her fantasy about what the date will be like.

I guess I'll find out for sure as I move along with the translation. I can always fix it if I need to.

My favorite is the sound effect, SPLORCH! I think I'm gonna go around today saying, "Splorch!"

I guess that's my own sound effect. I say or think "splorch" somewhat often, I think. It's a big blorpy squidgy sploochy splotchy splat... yeah. (However, "blorpy" typically refers only to a feeling in one's tummy -- an oogy feeling that makes one go "blorp". Why yes, I do have a strange vocabulary of my own words. How did you know?)

What they used was a drawn-out variant of the Japanese equivalent of "splat". But "splat" didn't really convey the sense of a kitchen in utter disarray with spilled gunk everywhere (even though Nani was only making them apples!). "Splorch" seems to work OK for that sense, though, and remains a variant of "splat".

Although I stayed up a bit late last night, I'm not feeling too schmergly today, thankfully. (See, when I yawn, I almost always utter "schmergle" at the end, thus the feeling of being quite tired is schmergly. It all makes perfect sense!!)

Yeah, I make up words too all the time! Like styrofoam packing peanuts are "squoogies." It's a totally made up word, but funny thing is, people who hear it all know what I'm talking about. I think splorch works perfectly, especially because the Japanese love making onomatopoetic words and phrases so much.
