Date: 2008-11-06 05:59 am (UTC)And it is a religious law. On a local TV station's forum, dozens of people are arguing over the issue. Fully 100 percent of those who voted in favor of Proposition Hate have used Biblical references in their explanation as to why they voted for it.
There are even those who say that they really don't mind gay couples having the legal rights that marriage affords them; they just have an issue with it being called marriage. Wherefore art thou Romeo?
When asked to argue their point with separation of church & state in mind, none has been able to come up with an argument. All they say is, "The people have spoken. Democracy rules." Well... Only to a point it does. The Constitution is there to ensure that, even if there are 9,999 people of one religion and just 1 person of another, that majority cannot impose a religious law on the 1 person no matter how much they want to.
