(Though, not quite sure what Dizzney's gonna make of one of their beloved chara shouting, "CRAP!")

Anybody have a good fix on "youkai," beyond what's in Wikipedia? Seems like it's used for basically any kinda Japanese spirit or spook. Evidently, "Ichariba choodee" (the title of the ep) is an Okinawan saying (in the local dialect) that means, "Once we meet and talk, we are brothers and sisters." So, kinda their version of Ohana.

I haven't watched what I've downloaded yet, but I think youkai don't include actual ghosts, just monsters and some other supernatural beings I'd be hard put to classify. Confusing. I saw a post once where a Japanese person compared the feel of youkai to the critters in Monsters, Inc., in that they could be scary, trickstery, or funny.

Have you seen http://www.obakemono.com/ ? It has a forum and stuff I keep meaning to explore. :)

Youkai is sort of a catch-all word for a variety of Japanese folk creatures and spirits, often considered to have some sort of magical power. "Natsume Yuujinchou" is a nice anime that features youkai. Akuma is often used for evil spirits or demons. The other popular term used in anime is Shinigami, which is for one related to death, often taking souls to the other side.

There's a nice list in wiki of legnedary creatures in Japan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures_from_Japan

One thing to remember is some Japanese words either don't translate directly into English or have more than one meaning. And that sometimes translators throw their own interpretations in. I recently had the unpleasant experience of watching an episode of Soul Eater where they had used Babel Fish or some other terrible translating program. So they may have translated "crap" and it could have be that or something else. Really, that's pretty mild compared to some other anime out there, lol!

Ah, and reanimated corpses are Shikabane. Yuurei would be what us traditional Westerners would equate with ghost. Nice little description here. http://japanese.about.com/library/weekly/aa102800.htm

Oh! How wonderful to see 'new' Stitch again! And that he's still incredibly naughty! Yuuna (is that her name?) reminds me of Mai from Totoro. I'm glad that there are now subs out with this - I never watched your other post all the way thru because I was too frustrated with not understanding the Japanese.

Holy crap, thanks for posting this Tiki. I loved watching it with the subs since I already watched it without and used mostly guesswork and common phrases I knew to piece together what was going on!

I really hope they actually dub this for North America, but I doubt it...

Yeah...

Favorite part thus far, a few minutes into it: The hidden Mickey! or hidden Mickey's shorts anyway.

And yeah, on the "Crap!" line, all Stitch says is "shimatta!" which can just as easily be translated as "uh oh!" or "Darn!" or "Whoops!" or even "Fiddlesticks!"

Oh, I saw the hidden Mickey too! Forgot to say anything about that.

Haven't forgotten about the Stitch manga, am going to try to get around to scanning some thing weekend.
