Oh man, they tricked me! I've substituted enough to see that preparing students for the SOLs/bubble tests really IS counterproductive to most teachers. No Child Left Behind is making most teachers want to slash their wrists; particularly in highschool... I've been openly discouraged from becoming a teacher. D:

(And I don't even approve of Head Start centers as something important to public education. The push for earlier and earlier "education" may help people who need daycare, totally understand that, but I haven't seen much to back up the assertion that 18 month olds are really benefiting from such programs, particularly compared to just being with their mommies. Baby Mozart is a crock!)

NCLB is an unfunded mandate. It was crap starting out of the gate.

I haven't seen any data that Head Start does any good, other than making people feel warm & fuzzy.

Yep... alas, it's definitely crap in action. It's kinda frightening, considering I AM considering becoming a teacher... (I could teach something like theater that has no standards? But I love English! Poo!)
