So, as you may have ascertained, the Dizzney stores in Japan this summer had a promotion where a good portion of the sales area was turned into "Stitch's Ohana Village." And, many of the characters in Stitch got to man part of the imaginary shop. Dr. Jumba was in charge of the grocery store. Which means, of course, radioactive candy yay! Plus, this neat shopping bag.

Here in the People's Republic of Seattle, they're going to start charging for grocery bags quite soon, so we may actually take this little bag to Trader Joe's next time we stock up on Yuppie Chow.

And here's some of the aforementioned glowing candy!

There's so much, they've actually given you a little wheelie bag to tote it around!

Of course, after hanging out in Stitch's Ohana Village for a couple months, you might need a wheelie bag to cart yourself around.

When I lived in Britain - and mind you this was more 20 years ago - you either brought your own bag or you paid 2-5p for a crappy plastic one. I always figured the only way Americans would start bringing their own shopping bags would be if they paid for them. It may be a few cents, but most Americans would scream if they had to pay...then bring their own next time on "the principle of the thing".

I think the "free bags" thing is actually more the exception than the rule out in the world - it's one of a million zillion things I got yelled at in Russia about last summer. OTOH, in Japan, the land of overkill, after packing into bags *inside* other bags and then neatly taping it all up, they routinely give you *extra* bags just so you give out stuffs as gifts.

A number of grocery stores here charge for them, and one of the bigger chains in Canada has swicthed a number of stores to Cloth-Bags only. The bags are nice and handy, so it's not too bad.

In Michigan, the consensus seems to be that stores that do that are run by communists or hippies. Or communist hippies.
