Dead dead dead

So, while we were in Outer Mongolia (this is 100% true) last month we heard a rumor that Fidel Castro was dead. So, of course, our party consisting of 20% Cuban by volume if not by weight, we hastened to the Intarnets, where of course, the rumor totally failed to be confirmed. (Silly us, as we checked Yahoo and the NY Times, instead of Drudge and Perez Hilton, who are of course, the experts.)

But despite the persistent, Brezhnev-like un-deadness of El Presidente Castro (now or then, ya can't keep a good Commie off life support!), we have since ascertained that the population of Miami Beach, FL, has already provisionally rented out the Orange Bowl for a super-fabulous "Castro is Dead Yay!" celebration, with customized t shirts and everything. Par-tay over Death to Fidel with about a million jillion giddy Cubanos? ZOMG, we so totally wanna go!!

Beijing!

Managed to get to Beijing and, guess what, THERE IS STITCH HERE!!!!!

The last two days have been a blur of running for trains, inhaling smoke and passport checks. tiki had what was probably THE worst experience of her life on the bus into Beijing from the Mongolia-Chinese border. If you have the opportunity to take what's called a "sleeping bus," one word, DON'T!

The driver hit me.

Yeah, rilly.

Sven goes to Mongolia

Sign directing one to the IKEA in downtown Ulan Baator, Outer Mongolia. Yes, really. Wombat Mark said, "Looks like you need to take a picture, Pam." Wombat Mark is getting to know us all too well.

The wrath of Khan

Two million people total in Mongolia, half of them live in this city. So, they always seem to be building.

Beijing Ho!

Last couple hours in Mongolia, headed out for a train in a bit. Then, we hope, the bus, and then Beijing. Although the way the hostel guy describes it, getting INTO Mongolia is a breeze, but getting OUT is a bit dodgy.

Anyways....

Live, from Ulan Baatar!

tiki's been off the intarnets for a couple of days kiddies, but we're logging in from Outer Mongolia right now. Yeah, really. Being finally free from Russia is like a weight off our soul. Our advice: if you visit Russia, by all means, try to avoid the Russians. Russian friend, no one likes you. I'm very sorry, by you're going to have to learn to stop spitting on the sidewalk. Oh, and the shouting thing. We've been hours in Mongolia, and no one yet has screamed at us. It's a joy here.

The Trans-Siberian express: imaging going through Montana. Then going through Montana again. And then again. And again. And again. And again. And again.....
