It looks like they've got defense department funding for this. So in case we're attacked by robo-cats?

340 lb payload as in... explosives? Yeah, very creepy. I hope no one at the SciFi channel sees that video. I can already envision the made-for-SciFi movie of the week....

Wow, that is definitely creepy looking. It doesn't help that the main robot looks like a fly, and sounds like one.

But the uses for an unmanned unit like that is really endless... anywhere that a search/rescue dog could go but would be too hazardous due to noxious gases and the like. Maybe people trapped in mines or something. They just need to give that thing a little wooden keg of whiskey.

A couple years ago there was an earlier, slightly larger (I think) version of this critter that they were calling the "robot mule." If I recall correct, Boston Dynamics developed that one too. Apparently the link to that video is gone. This unit looks very similar--maybe a little smaller and a little more compact; it must be a "second draft" of the robot mule. Very, very cool!

I used to have a robot cat. It was wheeled -- invented by the guy who created Chuck E. Cheese.
