Imagine you are on your deathbed. Recommend to those who remain in your life...

Well, that's cheerful!

We refuse to take this seriously. Sorry, EmoKiddies.

1) One book to read.

Lately, there's two that have made an impression, The Ruby Slippers of Oz and Vinyl Junkies. Both are about collectors--movie props and viny records, respectively. Sorry, it's not the most deathless prose, so English majors will be disappointed. Both books kind of ramble and are chockablock with anecdotes. But they do something quite wonderful. It's not a "sympathetic" (read: patronizing) take on collectors, it's a take by collectors. tiki collects neither live action movie props nor (at least currently) vinyl record albums, but we know and love (or at least know) a lot of the characters who populate both books.

2) One movie to watch.

One movie? Here's my deathbed advice: watch more than one movie. Geez.

3) One food to eat.

Go spend an evening at Quanjude and let them serve you Beijing Duck. All they do all day, and all they've been doing all day, every day, since 1864, is roast duck and serve duck dinners to hungry people. It's their mission. Indulge them.

4) One place to go.

No specific place, but at least go to one place where you need a visa and don't speak the language and maybe need shots and have to drive on the wrong side of the road not wearing seatbelts. You need to go places like that.

5) One life lesson to leave behind.

The beer is better almost everywhere outside the USA.
