THIS is what I was telling you about from KCRW's 'Sounds Eclectic Evening'!! This was the last song that Rodrigo y Gabiela ended their set with - thus making Travis cringe at following them next on stage. Their entire set was like this; and like I said on previous post - Cold War Kids' set was the only close to RyG. And at one point, Gabriela made the universal 'heavy metal' sign & said that's what they played ... albeit with quite a twist.
So glad you've seen them now perform (live is better, You Tube works) -- it now makes their CDs come alive!

What happened is, Cai Yong and his wife visited, so we had like a 75,000 calorie lunch at the Vietnamese place, so this afternoon I was feeling like I'd either fall asleep or die from bloating if I stayed sitting at my computer any longer. So, I went to the used CD store and was throwing some random things in my bin, and came upon Rodrigo y Gabriela and though, "Oh, Anita says they're cool, I'll throw them in too, lalalalalala..." Even though I'd usually rather drive on a Mongolian sleeper bus than listen to jazz. Anyways, I got back and was listening, and was actually impressed, and THEN they got to Stairway to Heaven, and I literally had to stop working, because my jaw wouldn't stay shut, and play it again, and then look for the video. Holy fucking shit. My life is changed. They absolutely rule the universe. I think this one commenter on Youtube was right, they must have sold their immortal souls to the devil to play like that. I spent the afternoon listening to Stairway and Orion.
Ian says he saw a musician in Brazil while he was there do this cool complicated acoustic thing, so he's gonna bring in a CD, and I'll loan him this one, and we'll see who wins!
