I really, really wish I could stop confusing Hugo Chavez with Hugo Reyes. Every time I hear the name, I perk up, only to be terribly disappointed.

Hahahaha! Yes, that *would* be terribly disappointing.

Has Lost started again yet? When last season ended, I was getting kind of fed up with it again.

New season premieres October 4th! Hooray for vast trunkless legs with the wrong number of toes!

...we may have to get TIVO or a a DVD-recording thingie during our November vacation, so that we don't miss all the new shows.

I really like TiVo, but it's got this weird flaw that I've never heard anyone else talk about--sometimes it will "bounce" off the correct channel while recording and you end up with a totally wrong show. It happened to us when we went on vacation & missed some Sopranos episodes. (Fortunately, the cable company had them available on On Demand.)

You know, if there's one thing that kind of bugs me about our political climate (WELL OKAY ASIDE FROM EVERYTHING, PERIOD) is the assumption that it's somehow cool and okay to insult Americans/America/President/anything remotely related to America to American's faces, and they're expected to agree. "Yes, we ARE all greedy capitalistic uneducated jerks who were stupid enough to elect Bush! My country really blows, doesn't it?"

I mean, YES I KNOW, I HATE IT ALL TOO, but there's only so many times one can be told, "Hahahaha, you Americans, you're all so dumb, right?" before I get snappish. (And I reached that point last fall. O Canada, your college students are assholes.)

I mean, this is not intended to be all "Yay our President is great and awesome and there's NOTHING WRONG WITH AMERICA AT ALL!" but I don't know... the rampant assumed anti-American self-loathing kind of... gets to me. O_o Not trying to sound Republican or anything horrible, but... yanno? *makes puppy eyes*

Also disclaimer: I retract my statement -- saying Canada's college students are assholes would be misleading and hypocritically culturally biased!

It is, in fact, ALL college students who are assholes! Because they're full of moxie!

Okay, I'm going to go... not drink anymore coffee, now.

Dunno, I enjoyed it. Certainly made the NPR commentators much funnier than usual yesterday!

But see, this guy wasn't really bashing America in general, just Bush. Basically blaming him for most of what's wrong with the country right now. Have to see if I can find a transcript of the speech; yes he's a wacko crazy, but there was merit in *some* of what he said...

The press has been harping on the whole Devil business (which admittedly I loved), but the rest of it is intelligent and fairly well reasoned.

Yeah, sounds a bit like my experience. I lived in England for a time during the Reagan presidency, and remember all the Euro-wank from back then. This study abroad thing is supposed to broaden you, but I don't think having me wander around muttering "Oh yeah? We saved yo' ASS in WWII" was the intended effect.

In the I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT category:

Chavez went to Harlem to announce the expansion of a programme to send cheap Venezuelan oil to poor families in New York.

That makes sense, I suppose... And lets see; if Bush makes the entire country bad, I guess the Muslims have a valid point in saying that the Pope has screwed up all of christianity!

I'm sure that's true. I'm sure I'd agree with a *lot* of what he has to say. But Mmy said it best, he comes off like one of those bozos you meet in college during Junior Year Abroad, who you start out agreeing with, but after 20 minutes wanna bash over the head with your beer mug.

I'm from Venezuela and now living in the US because of him, and let me tell you I wish Venezuela was as half a country as the US of course we are a rich country but that does nothing if an idiot runs it. So my point is that if Bush is the devil then Chavez is something a 1000 times worse, he's helping poor people here in the US while millions of people are dying in venezuela because of the high price of life, everyone is scared of going to the streets afraid of being killed by some "chavista" (the people that are with our so called president) because they have no rules if you go to the police they'll do nothing because they are with the government and as long as the vote in the elections in favor they're angels. I love my country and I'm dying to get back but this guy is a total idiot and a big shame to every Venezuelan that knows what is really happening, not like the ones that are getting paid millions to support him and buy tons of new houses and cars. Thanks for reading and now I'm mad again because I don't like talking about him arrrr. Anyways I'll go see all your stitch stuff that always brightens my day... sorry for any misspells...

Maybe you would know the answer to this question: is there any chance he will be voted out of office in Venezuela? I've heard he's not terribly popular down there, but that the opposition is kind of fragmented. Sadly, I don't know very much about Venezualan politics--the papers up here are much more likely to carry what's going on in Europe than what's happening in Latin America.
