Cool. My first reaction as a Californian, though, is, "Is it earthquake-proof?" given that it's over an archway, where one would be standing in said earthquake.

Your place is looking like where I live. The landlord and landlady have painted each room a different color -- dark blue, yellow, red, fuchsia...

We do get the occasional shaker up here. So far, since we moved here, we've been through this:



....and only lost one really ugly lamp. Hurray for old growth timber.

The board weighs only about 7 pounds. I'm pretty sure it's not going anywhere (it literally won't slide in or out up over the display rack, but needs to be pushed in sideways), but even so, we have at last half a dozen *other* surfboard-free archways conveniently located nearby to rush to in case of a quake.

Yeah, I myself prefer to keep them more neutral colors - white, off-white, beige...depending on our decor. (Like if we get beige curtains then the walls should also be beige.

Really light blue or light pink's okay, too, but nothing like dark blue, yellow, red or fuchsia. So, you'll never have to worry about our future place looking like your landlords'...except maybe the bathroom. I'd like to do some kind of theme there, too. Monica has a penguin theme in her personal bathroom. It's really cute. She's got penguins on the shower curtain, and a penguin soap dispenser...

When was this? Because I remember several years back when I was living in Fremont to be closer to my college, I heard on the news that there was a small earthquake up there in Seattle. My mom actually went overly panicky and was calling my sister like crazy (she was calling me asking if I had gotten a hold of her, too). When she finally got a hold of my sister she went "Oh, it was nothing. No big deal", because she had lived here most of her life, where we have small earthquakes all the time. ^_^ You just can't always feel them. I've slept through a ton of them myself. Only found out when I turned on the news. "There was a 4.0 earthquake today centering just outside of San Jose at 7:46 this morning..." Yeah...so? Hehe.

Wow, so now that you're able to move some of your stuff back in, are you going to have to co-ordinate the Stitchy collection being displayed with the walls? A sign saying "Only Purple Stitches Beyond This Point" could work, I suppose.

That was the Nisqually quake, 2001. My husband had a whole chunk of the building he works in fall down.

I grew up in SoCal, but the quakes seem different here. They're less "shaky" more "rolling."

That's a good question! When Boneboy and Seana were over visiting yesterday, they agreed that our interior is "all Stitchie colors." So I guess *everything* coordinates, heehee.
