During a press conference held at the current Tokyo Anime Fair, Toei Animation announced plans for theatrical anime movie adaptations of Pretty Cure Splash Star, Clannad, and Rose of Versailles.

Toei also revealed new character costumes for the work-in-progress Demashita! Power Puff Girls Z anime television series, announced production of animated series "Kabooki" and "Doskoi" specifically for overseas markets, and promoted the upcoming Kamisama Kaizoku television series, which is scheduled to premier in May.

There are one or two small volumes in English, translated and released in the 80s. They're incredibly rare. I've seen one on offer in the last couple years -- and for some reason it was being sold by someone in Poland.

The only other US release is the bit in Manga! Manga!

Dude, check amazon.de! There might be a German translation. And comics are way easier to read than prose, especially with Mr Dictionary and Mr Pencil. (I'm still working my way through Sailor V and Cybersix.)

Versailles no Bara if you wanna be precise, if you wanna use the japanese title.

Japanese people don't romanize katakana literally. They romanize it so that it's the actual word it's meant to be.
I've seen artbooks use "The Rose of Versailles". Though the only english language production used Lady Oscar [curiously, the live action movie isn't available on R1 DVD, but is available everywherelse in the world]

We just had a guest from Mexico. He liked my anime room, but was kind of nonplussed that I hadn't actually *seen* most of the shows I collect. I told him when we go to cons in Mexico, I often spend a lot of time in the hotel room watching anime.

If you scour the internet realllllllllly hard, you might be able to find the 2 volumes Frederick Schodt translated into English for the japanese market [yes, a translation already exists, for the first 2 volumes. Fred translated more, but only 2 were published, for language instruction purposes]

A chunk of it is in his Manga Manga book too I think.

I'm finding that (Sailor Moon and Utena excepted), there's a huge difference in the shows I like to watch and the stuff I collect. For instance, most of the shitajiki I own are for shows or manga I've never seen, or outright hate (I wouldn't watch Gravitation on a bet, but the shita are fab, and while W Juliet disappointed, I still love my foruku notebook). Same with artbooks -- I don't like Angel Sanctuary much, but the books are lovely. I have a dozen Astroboys, but have never seen the show and only read one volume of the manga. And I love my little Astroboys.

True that. Totoro's probably one of my favorite-est films in the entire universe, but our house isn't exactly overflowing with Nekobus plushies. Mr. Tikistitch was quite concerned about this when we went to Japan. He kept saying, "Look! Totoros! Why don't you buy them?" Of course, I was usually schlepping around 8 bags crammed with plush Stitchies at the time.

Hmm... I wrote it out the way we pronounced it phonetically back when the graphic novels came out. My second cousin had the full set, and it was some intense manga-reading back when I was 12.

I loved the Rose of Versailles Anime.
I have the first two Volumes of the manga in english and was so happy when they released it in german last year ^-^
Maybe there will be an english version of the show?

Katakana's one of those wierd things.... it's meant to represent specific foriegn words, broken down into easier to pronounce japanese syllables. But still the same basic word.

It'd be superintense, but I figure 12's okay, since it was serialized in a magazine for teen manga readers :) [I think it was Margaret... not sure]

It was super bizarre seeing a french documentary about Versailles recently..... ROV captures is so well. The manga and anime were super heavily researched.

Its called "Die Rosen von Versailles". There are 7 volumes.
