Five Golds for Phelps, Three to Go

BEIJING — Everybody has their theory about what makes Michael Phelps peerless. Simon Burnett, a freestyler from Great Britain, shared his the other day with Eddie Reese, the United States men’s Olympic coach.

“He’s not from another planet,” Burnett told Reese. “He’s from the future.”

tiki hates sports. But we're all about The Future.

So, here's some of the stuff we found at Tokyo Dizzyland this time:

Actually, we didn't espy this Fortune Stitch stuff 'til we were almost through at the store (the one jsut outside the park, near the train station) doing our "pre-shopping" run. We just had a couple hours before the Star Wars con started, so we had dashed down the two train stops to grab a couple bags o' Stitch.

Then, of course, as sometimes happens in Japan, our credit card suddenly wouldn't work. (Yeah, we'd called our credit card company and told them we were in Japan, and we had tons and tons of balance. It's just One of Those Things.) So, after the nice clerk had painstakingly laid out all our purchases and input them all, we had to dash over to the nearby shopping mall, pray that they'd have an ATM that worked for us and that we hadn't overshot our withdrawal balance for the day, and then we ran back with the cash to find the poor clerk just had to input everything again for us. Hair-raising.

Anyways.... )

These were a couple of random jigsaw puzzles we got at a random department store in Nagano.

Nothing special, except we think the images are pretty gorgeous. They had a couple of the puzzles framed at the store.

So, we picked these up in the Disney store in Japan, not sure if they were DS exclusives, but it was one of those OMFG they are so reading our MIND kinda moments, with little Stitchies grabbed by teensy claw machines hooks.

This was part of our Quest for Mascots, which we decided would become a theme to our J shopping, reason being teh cute, plus mascots are teensy and relatively un-fragile, and this pack up readily. We didn't reckon on then receiving like 10 million billion kajillion of them in the mail, thus creating a backlog of boxes stacked up to the ceiling yet to be photographed and cataloged. We can't complain. But of course we will.

tiki is getting pretty fucking tired of all the fucking windmills in all those fucking TV commercials for all the fucking political candidates.

Turns out, John "Windmills" McCain didn't even FUCKING VOTE for the fucking windmills:

Senator McCain did not show up for the crucial vote on July 30, and the renewable energy bill was defeated for the eighth time. In fact, John McCain has a perfect record on this renewable energy legislation. He has missed all eight votes over the last year — which effectively counts as a no vote each time. Once, he was even in the Senate and wouldn’t leave his office to vote.

From Thomas "I'm usually a putz" Friedman, via a bunch of them damn hippy bloggers.

QUOTH THE AWESOME MR. TIKI: "So basically he's like Don Quixote, except in this case, it's the windmills that are imaginary."
