Hey! It's girls randomly dancing in the desert!
After his debut in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Hrithik Roshan went on to spend the early 2000s doing some terrible, horrible, awful, no darned good movies, until he was finally rescued by his dad (again) with Koi Mil Gaya.
Surprisingly, this was not one of the bottom feeders. It's actually quite good.
The story: one night, Hrithik runs out to riot, basically because ALL THE KIDS ARE DOING IT. Not surprisingly, he gets his ass kicked. So he ends up running off to a magical land where he can be a terrorist. Surprisingly, unlike your typical terrorist training video, which involves crawling across the monkey bars, in India, you need to DANCE WITH A WHIP.
Meanwhile, Hrithik's loyal sister - a really neat performance by Karisma Kapoor - goes off looking for him, which maker her a bit mopey and obsessed, which annoys pretty much everybody, including her boyfriend. So, she puts on a pair of leather pants and tears up the dance floor!
Kinda fun to see a girl cut loose like that. One big regret about this is that she has no dance scenes with Hrithik, as she's playing his sister. He has a funny dance/romance scene early on with some girlfriend where they end up dancing in front of a Pepsi billboard for some reason.
I actually liked this movie a lot, despite all the leaps in logic. The scenes during the riots are genuinely horrifying, and Karisma acts her heart out. It's a difficult movie to watch, especially towards the end, so the WTF helps lighten the mood.
