I am being pressured to get onto Twitter. What I'm wondering is, do all of these updates get saved? Or is it more like facebook where it's just for your friends and then the updates gradually delete themselves?

Btw I thought you'd be happy/bummed to know that I think my fiance's sister and brother-in-law are taking their kids to that Creationist museum you went to a while ago. Was that in Pensacola? If it was, that's the one. They believe people walked with dinosaurs because the word "dinosaur" wasn't invented til the 1800s and before that, they were called "dragons." And I immediately thought of your Creationist museum photos!!

AFAIK, Twitter is forever. Though, considering how often their servers crash, "forever" might just mean until they have a big system meltdown. You can set it so you lock it, like on LJ, so only friends can see your tweets I think. But, I only Twit stuff I don't mind if it's public, so I'm not the expert on Twitter privacy issues. I have a few friends who have kinda moved their blogging over to Twitter, so it's fun to keep in contact there.

I didn't actually go to the Creationist museum - I just linked to somebody's photos. So your future inlaws thought The Flintstones was a documentary? Wild.
