...in which we attempt a pale and shoddy imitation of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] twotone....

We next scurried to Sephora, a store that specializes in, well, girlie stuffs. We'd heard rumors that they stocked a fragrance line that attempted to reproduce the tempting aroma of espresso coffee. And so, tiki, who never fears being perceived as an escapee from an institution for the commercially insane, asked a bystanding clerk whether they stocked said caffeinated perfumes.

Oddly enough, instead of dialing 911, the clerk readily bought into the madness. "Oh, we used to!" she enthused. "But, take a look at this..."

Oho.

As it turns out, the shop had an entire shelf full of products under the rubric of "Philosophy" which reproduced the scents of everything from root beer to Belgian waffles.

And, of course, every flavor of chocolate. We do have to ask why these were not also available in a body spray for men. Because, c'mon, you see two equally adorable boys drinking at the bar and one of them is chocolate-scented??? Is there even any choice?

The one down side, of course, is that these products were mainly bath gels. Which, as with potpourri, tiki missed the day in Girls School where instructions were provided.

The tiki set, to our dismay, featured only coconut scents, which we find to be not only not terribly pleasant (too many memories of cheap insect-attracting tanning lotions) but rather cliche. However, after much happy dawdling and sniffing, we at length purchased the "Breakfast" set, which features not only the aforesaid Belgian waffle bath gel, but also cream and cappucino. And, once we figure out what the heck bath gel is and what it does and how it is an upstanding member of our community, we predict Mr. Tiki too will be much pleased, especially on Belgian Waffle Day.

Awesome!

I don't even know what bath gel does. Hope it has instructions.

Mmm, Belgian waffles! *devours [livejournal.com profile] tikistitch*

You know what's really insane? It actually does smell just like Belgian waffles! It's kind of uncanny. I usually run right through department store perfume sections, hoping that one of the Perfume Girls won't spray me with something awful, but we could have stayed in this shop for another hour, just smelling.

Philosophy does some awesome food-scented stuff.

I haven't used bath/shower gels in a while, as I'm currently into small-batch soaps that smell like stuff and have scrubby stuffs embedded in 'em, but I think you have two options:

1. Squeeze a quarter-sized dollop on to a mesh pouf or other washing implement. Squish the pouf or cloth or whatever until it lathers up a bit. Generously lather all over body, wash off.

2. Squeeze into bath and use like bubble bath.

Too bad about the boring coconutty tiki stuff... but it sounds like the breakfast set will be a win!

By the by, would you be interested in any of the coffee-scented perfume samples I have from online retailers? They're perfume oils, so they're more for dabbing on to yourself (or soaking a handkerchief in, if you want to be retro) than spritzing in the air.

It's the first option. Bath/shower gels are just liquid body soap. You can use em on a loufa or pouf or washrag or hands or whatever the heck you wanna use. That's all it is. Nothing special about em.

Aw, thanks for the hints. They supply that stuff at hotels nowadays along with shampoo, and Gus and I always kinda push it off to the side 'cause we're kinda scared by it. Thank god they're (as yet) not setting out sample bags of potpourri at hotels, or I'd be a-scared it was personal.

Wow. That would be most insanely awesome!!

Oh ho! I saw that coffeeshop set on Sephora.com and figured it would cause general excitement.

I got freebies of Philosophy years and years ago, back when Amazon would routinely include free stuff to loyal customers. (I used to have an impressive collection of travel mugs!) Alas, this was before they hit their scented stride...

Their scented stuff is of so much nicer quality than, say, what I've deemed "hideous crawling perfumed stuff" like Bath and Body Works, but despite studiously applying myself to Girliness in the same fashion I studied my other subjects, I just can't bring myself to actually like using body wash/gel/liquid soap. It's so easy to waste by pouring too much of it. (And/or dropping it and having it leak. Yay.)

Particularly not for the price of Philosophy... although I'm so tempted to get these and put some sort of economizing pump dispenser so I couldn't waste the product. (Like dish soap!)

They also used to have a little travel kit that I was hideously tempted by, because it looked just like a first aid kit, with the cross and all, ONLY PINK. (I figured I could reuse the bag and little plastic containers once I used up the product, but I never willed myself to pay $30+ for a pink first-aid bag.)

My husband has just recently learned that the body lotion provided in hotels is for AFTER the bath, not during. I really think they should start including illustrated diagrams on how to use 'em, like an airplane safety pilot for those unfamiliar with all those mysterious liquids-in-bottles.

I'll start setting aside and decanting stuff, then! I will note that I am not that well-versed with coffee, so some of the coffee scents may be more like "mocha" or "one-block radius of a Starbucks".

I am not a body gel person because of my sensitive skin. I love all sorts of lotions/unguents provided I am not allergic to them.

I think I had previously mentioned on my blog Jaqua's 'Pink Buttercream Frosting'. It REALLY smells like cake frosting and the scent does not go away. I bought both a bottle of the lotion & the body mist. Both should last awhile because the scent is so strong, just a *light* dusting is enough.

Do you want me to send you some of the lotion?

And chocolate scented cute boys? Good thing I'm married.
