Closing Ceremonies

They Olympics are finally over, and none too soon:

Here's a small plush the enterprising Mr. Tiki liberated from a UFO catcher in Nagoya for us. (As a comparison, here is Stitch Judo medalist, as issued by HK Dizzyland - and we certainly hope he didn't go around biting the referees).

We finally saw the Olympic sport that broke our brain yesterday. We don't know (and none of you tell us, because we don't WANT to know) what the fuck it was supposed to be, but it was a bunch of girls dolled up like they were gonna do synchro swimming, only instead they were twirling little cartwheels on a mat, whilst tossing pink jumpropes back and forth. This was supposed to be a sport. We dunno about you, but the IOC has just announced that baseball and softball, two games with actualy, ya know, scores 'n stuff, have been banished from the Olympics. For jello-haired freaks with pink jumpropes? Good lord.

Oh, and look: he's number 626! Hee.

I remember being somewhat disappointed to discover that the biathlon involves cross-country skiing and riflery, but not both at the same time. As a wee one, I sincerely believed that the biathlon was a ridiculously badass sport with gun-toting skiiers firing at moving targets as they skiied.

Your version is kind of awesome. If you ever run for IOC Chairman, I will totally vote for you.

You mean Rhythmic gymnastics.

Also, bring back baseball and softball!

This was supposed to be a sport.

See this from today's L.A. Times. Guess it used to be you didn't have to compete in a *sport*.

If they ever make cheerleading an Olympic sport--which I understand there have been some people trying to do--I will never watch TV again, I swear.

I am a big fan of artistic gymnastics (even went to Beijing to see it live). but can't stand Rhythmic gymnastics! It isn't a "real" sport so much as "dancing", plus the judging is so screwed up. Whoever Viner (crazy Russian coach who bribes everyone)wants to win, does! Even if they are not the best!
